"Lottie's Mood" Marcus Belgrave
As a young man, Marcus Belgrave was tutored by Clifford Brown before going on to perform with legendary bands led by Ray Charles and Charles Mingus. Recognized as the Godfather of Detroit Jazz, he has mentored many of Detroit's greatest musicians. "Lottie's Mood" is a tribute to the Motor City's most legendary exotic dancer, Lottie "The Body" Graves.

To answer Elayne's question, this is indeed "Lottie the Body's Mood", written by Lawrence Williams and available on Marcus's recording "Live at Kerrytown Concert House". RIP Marcus Belgrave, the king of Detroit Jazz trumpet.

I would like to know about this song ~ who wrote it? and i'm thinking it's about "Lottie the Body" ~ a Black Burlesque dancer (still living), who was well-known, famous! in Detroit 40s -late 50s+ in Detroit ~~ around the time my mother was also dancing Burlesque in Detroit, known as "The Leopard Girl" ~~ Black & white did not mix then much publicly ~~ EXCEPT SHOW PEOPLE! who were all about the music, the dance, the "art" ~~ and thus the first to integrate ~~ i know the show-girls & musicians all went in the back doors to see each other's shows ~ "catch the acts", jam, visit, play & par-tay into the wee hours......long live beautiful tunes like this and spirits like Marcus Belgrave, who helped me, along with everyone else! BLESSED we are to have such big-hearted folks among us & such crafted musicians ~~ VIVE Marcus Belgrave!
