@@SterlingArchimedes assuming this isn't just a troll, I'm curious what you'd rank above it.
@SterlingArchimedes3 күн бұрын
@@andrewdavidson665 there is a vast many things that have extremely complex engineering behind it. For example, ai computing likely has an incredibly complex set of algorithms that had to be "engineered" or coded and it does incredible things. Aircraft are incredibly complex and highly engineered, more so than this flying tin can. Bio sensors, Semiconductors, micro electronics are incredibly complex chemical engineering. Medical diagnostics and treatments... yea a giant falling trash can getting caught looks impressive but it is hardy and amazing engineering wonder. Especially since this starship thing isn't going to be successful, mark my words
@andrewdavidson6653 күн бұрын
@@SterlingArchimedes interesting response. Ok I'll absolutely flat out disagree with all your comment. There is no such thing as AI right now. We have ML and LLM which are just a set of processing rules ("incredibly complex set of algorithms") and a lot of data fed to them. Aircraft more complex than this? Given this autonomously went to space, came back and landed itself so 2 metal pins land on 2 metal arms with great precision and held it suspended? But... aircraft. I think your last two lines reveals the real reason for your dismissive comment. Anyway, happy 2025 to you and anyone else that sees this.

As a young 12 year kid from Scotland I called the hotline so you could listen into the maiden flight of the space shuttle launch in 1980 live (Mother wasn't to happy with the phone bill tho) but watching that booster catch live in 4k as a 58yr old has to be the highlight of 2024 for me, absolutely fantastic. Always catch your Sat show Marcus, awesome work m8, all the best for 2025 from Scotland.

I really feel like people who call Starship a 'tin can' or the catch a 'party trick' really have some deep internal conflict going on, they like rockets, and want to like Starship, but can't admit it because 'real people'(bots) on twitter tell them to hate SpaceX/Musk. Me, I see rocket and I'm happy. I don't have a stake in the game I just want to see big flame and shockwaves.

All the experts that said, "It will never fly. . ." ". . .and even if it did you certainly could never catch it.", seem to have vanished without a single apology.
@12pentaborane3 күн бұрын
Those are reasonable things to think though. This is only the second time a 30+ engine booster has been developed, and the N-1 had issues related to the number of engines used. It literally was the first time also that an object of that size came back with the precision to get caught. No other point of reference was there. A not to great thing is for attempted booster catches its 1 for 2.

@@TobyCatVA what's funny is how certain the experts are that things will never happen. When a distinguished but elderly scientist states that something is possible, he is almost certainly right. When he states that something is impossible, he is very probably wrong. Arthur C Clark

I didn't add and should have made clear the ones I'm talking about were nasty, name calling, haters throwing out words like retarded, scammer, liar. . . This would have to be the best video I've watched of the past 12 months (which is probably 500 to 600 hours of content). I just love how much this community collaborates, without that we wouldn't get such awesome videos as this one. Perfectly matched soundtrack too. 3:16, I could watch that on loop for a stupidly long time. So lucky to have been able to watch every flight test of 2024 live. The live footage of the ship reentry on IFT4 and the plasma glow was something else and then the flap somehow still managed to hang on enough for a soft splashdown. We a definitely in a golden era of spaceflight.
