I'm from France, I knew some classics but it's not a very famous genre here. My discovery of country music was with Maren Morris and her album Hero, then I started listening to Kacey Musgraves and Brandi Carlile. Having these women in mind as references, I thought this industry had changed since these old records from the Nashville that I only knew with documentaries but apparently it didn't. I’m glad that one of the country singer I admire the most is speaking up, she's on the right side of history. The Bridge is beautiful, I can’t wait to hear Maren's next music

Dear colleagues, hello! I am a depression patient from rural China. Since accepting Professor Qin Hui's enlightenment, I have awakened to his viewpoint that democratic countries such as the United States, Britain, Germany, France, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan should unite to help all Chinese people pressure the Communist Party to improve the overall low human rights situation of Chinese citizens, rather than solely emphasizing the human rights issues of Hong Kong, Xinjiang, Tibet, and dissenting citizens. Especially for the negative welfare treatment of farmers and 'migrant workers' groups, we will increase their social welfare benefits for elderly care, medical care, education, and housing, and reduce the privileged high welfare treatment within the system. Farmers in China have the lowest level of status rather than a profession, and migrant workers refer to workers with farmer status. This large-scale discrimination and oppression of vulnerable groups is unparalleled worldwide today, Eradicate the red sweatshops (only by improving the human rights and welfare treatment of Chinese migrant workers can we protect the labor rights and interests of democratic countries from being harmed, otherwise there will be vicious competition and the unfortunate consequences of bad currency driving out good currency that everyone is unwilling to see: if the human rights of Chinese "migrant workers" cannot be improved and aligned with those of democratic countries, then labor in democratic countries will have to lower their human rights standards and face Chinese "migrant workers" Keep up. I'd prefer a tomato salad any day, or with cucumbers, peppers, carrots, etc. A salad w/o any toppings is just plain lettuce. However, a plain lettuce salad is an accurate description of what the country music genre is without women, so maybe who ever came up with that quote "women in country music are like tomatoes on salad, just a topping", is on to something, essentially admitting that having only men in country music is like a plain lettuce salad, damp, limp, with little flavor or nutrition.😆

It's a good thing that Nashville fiilters out the people that try to change the culture of country music. It is more than just music. It is a lifestyle. If you change that, then country music doesn't exist anymore. The reason why the country music sound has successfully modernized is because the culture is more important than the sound. This is true whether you like it or not. They say that they don't know when the culture war infiltrated the country space and how it's going to evolve past it, but it always has been apart of it and always will be. Stop trying to change it and leave. I applaud her for that.

I'll give her this: she's very nice in explaining why Nashville/country music is such a dumpster fire; way more nice than I probably would be. Her train is rolling along nicely now and she isn't going to completely trash the ride that brought her there. But I totally share her gripe with Nashville every time I listen to a country music station. It's 100% over produced artifice; male gazed nonsense, trucks, god, cute girls in cut off jeans. The corporation loves it. Middle road, stay in your lane complacency that pays big dividends for large corporations. Real glad to see Maren Morris say bye bye to that. That girl has grit. She also has real star quality and staying power in my view because she is a very good versatile song writer, unlike 98% of the bro' dudes that Nashville recruits. Love the Podcast guys. Good stuff.

Just watched a country awards show, and not only did they give awards to young black artists, but they had a lot of female artists performing (Brandy Clark easily delivered my favorite performance of the night, I was literally weeping afterwards, but the War and Treaty were also excellent as usual, Trishia Yearwood and Hailey Whitters were great too). I don't think the industry hates diversity as much as you all claim, the main thing the industry loves is MAKING MONEY though, and they do like to pick who is making the money. Which is also why a lot of the best country and americana artists are never seen or heard. But that is the music industry in general, even independent labels. But overall country is way more diverse than you all are letting on. Country would not even exist if not for the merging of European folk traditions with the black blues men and Hawaiian slide guitar, it is always intersectional as a genre. Either way, I like Maren. I have the Highwomen record and look forward to hearing the development of her songwriting.

@@jysmtl The black community has generally supported artists better, and with more respect. Britney Spears and Beyonce are the same age, and Beyonce has sold 50 million more records, and never been made fun of as badly. The country music industry has been wanting a black star for a long time, someone that will sell like Lil Nas X's Old Town Road, but consistently. Darius Rucker and Kane Brown have done well, but they aren't chart toppers. Bro Country artists have always wanted more hip hop guest stars because it adds credibility to them, and of course Nelly and some other rappers that are past their moment are always willing to show up.

Oliver Anthony’s song resonated with people because it spoke to the lived experiences of countless. If you’re as privileged as Maren Morris, it’s not surprising that you would find it problematic.
@Janaely Жыл бұрын
She found the second verse problematic, in which he sings about not wanting ebt to go towards letting fat people buy fudge, *right after* singing about being mad about rich men wanting control over what we say and do. Either we give *everybody* help who needs it, or we don’t. If we don’t, the reasoning for it should adhere to equity, fairness, and privacy guidelines. Those guidelines probably don’t include “Yes people can have ebt, unless they’re fat and/or want candy.”
@michaelnealis1926 Жыл бұрын
@@Janaely The song is overall about a broken system/society. He’s not arguing that we shouldn’t help those in need, he’s making the point that nobody should take advantage of the system, rich or poor. It’s a nuanced take that isn’t just “rich people bad, poor people good”. When some people cut corners and prioritize selfishness, it burdens everybody.

I wasn’t trying to convey that the line was only calling out greedy people milking welfare. I’m glad you understood that I was solely saying that poor people should be condemned to rice and beans.

If I had criticized my superiors or my peers during my career, I would not have spent the 20 years I worked for the same corporation. I didn't always agree with everything, but if you want to change something, it needs to be done with respect for all concerned. No one opinion is more important than another, and parents should absolutely have the right to make decisions for their children especially in the matters of health care and education, since these have such a lasting impact on the child's future.

Where are the Native American country super stars etc? Those communities have been huge CM supporters economically. Example: Dakota Beavers. He is Native and White and absolutely talented, has the voice, the look, yet crickets...no record deals? kzbin.info/www/bejne/rna2fqFopsRnbsk I grappled with this 45 years ago, what Maren discusses, and walked away from pursing it because of the narrow mindedness of that industry. Man did have a smooth voice just needs to stop picking on one particular group of people and share it with the whole country. Why would my taxes pay for anyone who doesn't work at alllll to eat better than a man who doesn't get lunch breaks for the most part of his weeks! Now that would've made the song flawless. Maren, here is your problem. You are not really country. Like your inner being. You don't relate to true country people. Country people largely are conservatives. The music was born out of the south and southwest, which are largely conservative states. That is not going to change because that is the audience that loves this music. You should spend time with Taylor Swift if you want to cross over. There is way to do it without burning every bridge that made you.

She likes to "claim" herself as some savior on gender and race equality. She's hid behind these claims and using these platforms not to have to face the fact that she ran her mouth too many times about the wrong people...and that's what has ended her career in Nashville. She's no sacrificial lamb..as she claims to be to hide the fact that she's just a mean girl. Her controversies do not go this deep. It all caught up with her and she HAD to leave Country Music because her career was/is in shambles as a result of her own actions. She very hypocritical as well. She blasted the CMA's during the pandemic for having the awards indoors after Charley Pride's death, tweeting "if this(his death) was a result of the CMAs being indoors, we should all be outraged". However, she attended the same award show herself, accepted an award and even performed at it. She then really showed everyone how she stands by her convictions when she deleted this tweet once she got called out for it. That tweet has never been mentioned by her since. The CMA's had to defend themselves against her wrongful claims, as they took all necessary precautions and did nothing wrong. So the CMA's do not welcome her with opens arms now after this ..and rightfully so. Instead of owning up to what she has done...she will pick apart the organization and accusing them of racial and gender inequality to hide her wrong doings. And this is only ONE example of many of the stunts she has pulled that have ultimately resulted in her own career assassination. For a while I thought her bizarre and manipulative behaviors made her some form of narcissist. But narcissist are never wrong. I do believe she looks back and see's where she's screwed up...then she just makes excuses, plays victim or flat out lies trying to cover it up...not to mention using vulnerable platforms, subjects and at times even vulnerable people to aid in her schemes. Her current career status is a direct result of her own actions. It's just all caught with her and she has no one to blame but herself......but she doesn't..she blames everyone and everything else but herself. The next genre she tries to worm her way into needs to just slam the door in her face or they will have a parasite amongst them just like Nashville did. She loves to refer to being Southern and brags about Texas being her home state. As a fellow Texan I am ashamed to say she is from our state. Most Texans are full of humility, heart and integrity. All things Maren is not!

Can you explain how her career is doing so poorly? She is still asked to perform for country audiences, including CMT Crossroads and a country festival in Sacramento, CA. She was nominated at the last grammys and plays near sold-out shows with the Highwomen... Her monthly listeners on Spotify has not wavered. Also, if Texans are so full of heart, can you accept LGBT+ and all races please?
