I wonder if 80% of what the sound person does is tell the drummer - 'hey dude, you need to play really quietly for this to work. No, like, quieter than you ever played. I'm going to stand right behind the camera, and stare at you. If you don't play quiet, we won't post this. I mean it. QUIET"

Lovely. I like her voice. These Tiny Desk sessions have helped me discover so many great new artists performing their own material. It saddens me when I hear so many people of my age group (born in the 1960s and 70s) say there is no good music any more. They are simply not searching, or are looking in the wrong places (such as mainstream media, which is mainly a futile, depressing experience).
@maximef.9945 жыл бұрын
Agreed ! There's profusion of fantastic artists nowadays ! There's actually more you can find than in the 60's/70's thanks to the internet. Finding them is the hard part when you're into mainstream medias, and sometimes the hidden gems have very small communities, which make it harder for them to be known and recognized. Thanks to NPR and KEXP (amongst others) for making this possible.

Back again for the ~500th time. Sometimes (most times) I need a pick-me-up and want to grin from ear to ear. I traveled from Maryland up to NYC to see her live a couple months ago and it was surreal. She told a story from the stage about connecting with fellow (suffering) being at the grocery store that made her realize that everyone is going through something sometimes and that realization was moving and had a residual affect on her. Margaret seems more happy these days but I still enjoy the melancholy that oozes here. "SO GOOD!" indeed dude who roared at 6:00 and the smile that follows will make you happy!

I know it doesn't go in this order on the album but this set list feels like it's telling a story. In Emotions And Math she's head over heels in love with someone to the point of being codependent and doesn't think she can live without them. In Love Like This, they're braking up and she's trying to process how and why because it's the best thing she's experienced and can't imagine life without that form of connection. In You And I, she's found someone that's pretty much just a fuck buddy that developed feelings for her while she's still in despair from the last relationship, which she felt much more strongly about and probably still had her guard up because of the damage it caused. Somebody To Anybody is something I had to really think about, I feel like it's describing depression following all of the other three song's events but it could just be describing a go with the wind, nonchalant personality type.
