War and Human Society
We like to think of war as an aberration, as the breakdown of the normal state of peace. This is comforting but wrong. War is deeply woven into the history of human society and the outcomes of particular wars have changed history. The nature of societies affects the ways wars are fought, while war can also bring changes in such areas as culture, politics, or technology. - War: How Conflict Shaped Us, Margaret MacMillan, 2020
This lecture analyzes that complicated relationship and our responses to war, and will explore such questions as who fights, how wars start and whether we can control them.
