I started wearing dresses and skirts as much as possible within the past couple of months. I’ve always been a tomboy and never been pulled towards dresses. But I have two little daughters now and feel a desire to model femininity for them, especially in a culture where it isn’t cherished. It’s interesting how gentleness and peace seems to come from embracing the delicate and feminine.

Full time maxi dresses/skirts (even for winter and home improvement) has gotten me thru years of chronic illness. Not only comfort but feeling put together when I feel at my worst. Thrift store dresses with some high end jewelry feels pretty good. And yes, an interesting social experiment is how people treat you in public… excessively courteous, opening doors, approachable, unassuming, but occasionally underestimated (charging more at the smog check, etc). But mostly it just feels good… I don’t need to conquer the world anymore.

I've had people ask if I'm dressed up for anything and I say nope, I've always preferred dresses and skirts. I didn't have a pair of pants until I was 10 🤪 and I've always been a tomboy. I have even been known to wear my chainsaw chaps over a long skirt with my corset under my shirt and gone into the woods to cut firewood. Side note...especially for busty gals...I think a properly fitted and broken in corset is infinitely more comfortable than any bra!

I recently started wearing dresses more often and I noticed everything you did. You are not crazy. The clothes we wear affect our behavior and the way other people treat us. I feel better in a dress. Yesterday I almost wore jeans and a t-shirt so I would "look normal" while going to a class outing. I wanted to wear a dress because I like the way it feels and how it looks, but I didn't want to stand out and look "too formal." After trying on several outfits, mixing and matching with jeans and crop tops, I went with the dress. I wasn't comfortable in my jeans. Sometimes I feel great in jeans, but I'm tired of forcing myself to wear them so I'll "fit in" and "look normal" whether that's at work or school. When I put on that dress, I felt the change. I smiled and I felt pretty. I felt put together. I told myself that it wasn't my fault if I was the best dressed in the room, and it certainly isn't a bad thing. In the end, no one sneered at me, no one made a rude comment, and I ended the day feeling pretty and confident. If you want to wear the dress because it makes you feel good, wear it.

I wear a dress almost every day because it's SO easy, comfy, and I always feel so put together in them! I do get a lot of annoying comments, though, like "wow you must have spent so much time getting ready today, I could NEVER," "look at you, you must really be judging me in my sweatpants," and "why are you so fancy today?" 🤦‍♀️ People don't get that dresses are literally just fabric you throw over your body like any other article of clothing.
@Caroline_Shane
@Caroline_Shane 11 ай бұрын
It's interesting you say that. I have been wearing dresses for the past three years almost every day, now officially every single day, and I thought that I would get comments like that, but I really haven't. I have only gotten one from someone I know very well who after a while of seeing me wear dresses asked how I feel about her wearing very casual clothes. But, I could tell it was a very genuine question, and she didn't ask it in a rude way. I just straight-up told her "absolutely not, I don't judge you by the way you dress". We are also both Christians so I told her that I admire her for so many other characteristics, especially her faith which is more important, and that she's beautiful either way. Side note, I also don't do it for Christianity's sake or for modesty. I just genuinely like dresses better, for how I feel in them and because of how easy they are to put on. I didn't tell her that because she already knows. But, I don't do it for that reason so I also don't judge her for not wearing dresses for religious reasons either.

I've slowly been transitioning to a dresses and skirts wardrobe. It will probably end up as a dress wardrobe. One thing that I've noticed is that over time I actually have become more comfortable in dresses than I am in pants. I grew up loathing dresses so that's a huge deal for me. Dresses are SO wonderful. I love layering things with them and have a few under skirts (cotton slips) with lace trim. It makes me so happy! Love this video!

I’ve been so looking forward to this video! I don’t wear a dress every day, but they have definitely become a staple in my wardrobe. I just had my 4th baby a week ago, and they were key to a summer pregnancy and covering my varicose veins. I absolutely echo your sentiment about feeling different and being treated differently. It really is fascinating. Mrs. Midwest has some great videos on femininity and leaning into that.

I had the same revelation this summer! I’ve never felt so feminine, comfortable, secure, and beautiful. I even feel more articulate. The compliments that naturally flow towards you are just a bonus to the inner work that wearing dresses brings. It’s as if I unlocked a part of my inner child that remembers spinning around in a beautiful dress with so much life and energy! It’s almost indescribable how natural it really feels. It feels like coming home. My job requires me to wear pants and I live in a place that will get a lot of snow, so in a couple weeks, I’ll have to say goodbye to my collection of gorgeous dresses until next year. 🥹

I live in Canada, and we get lots of snow. I wear skirts with leggings or tights and high boots. I encourage you to try it before saying that you have to put away your dressed until spring. I have been doing it for over 10 years, and even play ice hockey, ball hockey and run in skirts! (Of course, with ice hockey, I do wear snow pants over the skirt...just saying...)

Love this video! Read an article not too long ago that touched on this same challenge of wearing dresses for a month and the woman saw differences within her own family. It brought out her femininity, the masculinity in her husband, and similar comments from her children. I love the swooshing you get to do with dresses, it makes you want to run through a field of flowers. I definitely want to challenge myself to find dresses I feel beautiful in because they really do seem to make a difference in mood/confidence and it shines in others around as well. Thank you for an amazing video as always! PS: I love dress #1 and #9 on you, they're absolutely beautiful!

I love your journey. I do have leggings, one leggings I do wear under a dress, or when I am working out. I feel different when I wear a pretty dress, I feel beautiful, I really feel at peace and joy. I was inspired to do the full change from jeans to dresses from the influencers Mrs. Midwest and Inspired by Nikki, Nikki has also been on this journey as well from used to wearing all jeans to wearing only dresses, there are other wonderful influencers that help women with their feminine journeys.

Margaret, thank you so much for making this video. I’ve worn skirts or dresses almost my entire life and have started wearing pants a lot more recently. Although I love both, I have found that I truly feel like you described-free, more feminine and ladylike, truly beautiful, and honestly even more gentle. I have noticed that even when I went to the store in a long skirt (for the first time in forever) yesterday, I felt like I received looks of appreciation and kindness from so many people instead of just another passerby that has things to do and places to go. People stopped and looked. I felt a little weird from all the “attention”, but I genuinely felt respected and valued. Was that just because I wore a skirt? I doubt it (as I was also carrying my 7 week old on my chest), but it sure did feel different. So thanks again for the encouragement! Let’s become a generation of simplicity and beauty once again, valuing who we were made to be. Appreciate you so much!

It is a beautiful change, and I love how it makes me feel! Like you said, whether I’m doing chores, running errands, or anything else, I feel more put together, feminine, flowey, elegant. 😊 Thank you for being willing to stand out and share your experience! Not crazy--or, even better, crazy in a good way! This was an interesting experiment. There was a time (a few years back) when I had a hard time finding a dress--that is, a dress for whatever occasion I was getting ready for. Thankfully, that seems to have changed. But isn't it strange that these days, to wear a dress every day stands out as unusual. For centuries, women wore dresses. I can't imagine working out in a dress, but for the rest of the day, way cool. You have inspired me to give this a try. I am just starting on a path of sewing some of my own clothes, mostly for the creativity of that. I'm starting off with skirts, and hope to have several made for the summer. Nice video, Margaret!

I’m 54 years old. In the 90s, I wore a dress everyday because I loved Laura Ashley dresses so much. I loved how I felt wearing LA dresses. After Princess Diana died, so did the popularity of Laura Ashley dresses. My MIL, who didn’t dress up, kept commenting how I shouldn’t be wearing dresses just to lounge around. I started not wearing dresses as much. I felt lost many years of who I truly am. About 4 years ago, I decided to start wearing dresses again everyday. I feel pretty all the time. I look forward to choosing what dress I will wear for the day. I will never go back to my dark years. Bravo to you. I hope you continue it!

After wearing pants my whole life, I bought half a dozen dresses a few years back and tried wearing them. I HATED them. They didn't fit my lifestyle or my personality. I was hoping to like them to make my wardrobe easier. Instead I developed a uniform of simple tees and wide leg linen pants. It's good to experiment to figure out what works for you to simplify your life so you aren't thinking about outfits all the time and so that you feel really great in what you wear! I don't regret trying it at all even though it didn't work because it got me one step closer to what was right for me.

Not every woman will like dresses but if more try they may be surprised. Dresses make me the happiest and the most carefree. I only wear maxi length and it makes me feel like a queen. I did experiment with only wearing dresses but I did start feeling bored. I still wear mostly dresses and they are my favorite pieces but I crave a change time to time and will wear jeans or something casual. The thing is now even my jean outfits are very feminine and my casual wear is very coordinated and put together, not sloppy or an afterthought.

You are stunning inside & out 🤍🌷 you & your dresses are gorgeous! 💛 this was so sweet & encouraging!! I completely echo your sentiments! I grew up like never wearing dresses or liking dresses! The more I grew in just my role as a wife and woman of God the more I was drawn to dresses! I literally started from scratch and now I wear a dress almost 100% of the time! I do feel so much more beautiful, feminine, and ready for my days! I agree people do take notice and none of this in a vein way either like you said, but I also act more feminine like I recognize when my posture isn’t proper or I move too swiftly and dresses help me slow down! I can do everything I normally do in a dress! I chase my dog in a dress, I garden in my dress! It sounds silly but I even have workout dresses that are just like normal dresses that aren’t as intricate that I wear shorts under for runs or tennis, etc! It’s just me - like you said I feel more me! I feel alive, COMFORTABLE, and like a breath of fresh air! Dresses are SO easy too - they are ONE outfit which actually bodes well to the minimal way of life and instantly makes me look put together without any effort! & You aren’t crazy - and we keep thinking that because I feel like we’ve been lied to by society and Satan where we are so “modern” and so far removed from traditional roots where we feel we can’t wear dresses anymore, like it’s too old school and feminine and we will be ostracized because the Western world simply doesn’t celebrate that anymore! Basically people want us to be anything but not feminine and traditional! But I truly feel I personally was made to be this way and I’ve been so much happier since accepting myself and what its brought like wearing dresses! 💝🌸

I 've done experiments - one day wearing jeans and a cute top vs the next day wearing a skirt. Hands down, the days I wear skirts I am treated like a lady. Men open the door more often and people in general are willing to help you if you are looking for something. I even get a hat tipped now and then. I never get that in my jeans. Everyone at the gym treats me like a lady and still respects me, which I really appreciate. Wearing dresses helps me mentally while having a chronic illness to feel beautiful and put together even though I feel completely crummy all the time. Even when I stay home all day, I love wearing my designated “house dresses”. I wear aprons over them if I cook or clean and it keeps everything cleaner. I had a similar mental transformation as you described in this video. It’s really cool and unexpected! Enjoyed this video!

I started looking into dressing in a more feminine way over the summer as I was learning about God’s design of the woman and what femininity looks like, how it’s lived out, etc. I also grew up a tomboy, playing soccer, very rough around the edges, typically wearing a baggy shirt and sport shorts. But when I put on a dress or a skirt, I find that my confidence goes through the roof, I feel lovely and feminine, I live more gently and I feel comfortable all day long. I have also received so many kind gestures while dressing in a feminine way, because I think this world loves to see a woman’s delicate nature come forth and wants to protect it. It’s precious. Thank you for sharing Margaret.

A few months later I got pregnant, and dressing this way was super comfy and easy during pregnancy. Now postpartum I feel so much confidence, and a lot of that is from not having to fit into a pair of pants! Definitely feel more put together, and properly feminine. Tuning more into the role God has called me to as a mom and wife. Also, Neuflora has become my go to, adore their pieces!

When pregnant with my second child, we experienced an unusually hot summer. The only thing I could find to wear was a loose-fitting, thin, long length pinafore dress. It got worn and washed over and over. I had always worn jeans/trousers before. I was really surprised at how different I felt wearing a dress. Now wear dresses most of the time - so much more comfortable and versatile.
