I won an informative speech tournament in Northern California with my topic being on Echolalia while in school to become a SLPA. My son is also on the spectrum, hence my returning to school to learn and understand how to tech my son to communicate better. Eight years later I still love learning all things about language processing, for him and children like him!

Thank you so much for all of this information! I went to purchase your book, but can't find a reasonable seller. I'm seeing prices from $90-$150+, is there a place you'd recommend looking?

Hello Mrs. Blanc, I’m an SLP with several questions regarding personal GLP experiences and possible future research. How can I contact you to get your expert opinion?

These sessions are amazing! The difference in tone regarding this type of language processing is huge. So many times all these things are referred to as “problems” to be solved rather than a natural progression. Love love love. I wish all autistic parents would stop and listen to this and then stop everyday to listen to their kids

I am 2 years late seeing this but I am glad I found it. I have CEU subscriptions for Slp continuing ed and I cannot find anything or hardly anything on gestalt learning and understanding and affirming echolalia. I want to know so much more about this and nail it down so that I do better for my future students. The main takeaway from this for me is that every communication is intentional and to just listen and try to read between the lines. We may get it wrong but that is the starting place and viewpoint to see the communication attempts

"What was found to be the statistical truth doesn't apply to the outliers." Something that I wish so many educators would get their heads around in so many contexts. Because people not understanding this is how a lot of neurodivergent kids grow up getting told, in effect, that we're not real people.

Please watch 'Echos of Echolalia' to hear Ann Peters talk about the 'outliers' she learned from in her qualitative research!

Just now I saw a video to reduce echolalia and scripting saying that it interferes in ABA theories in Mary Barbera channel..As this is also a evidence based practice, would you say this gestalt processing is against aba principles of teaching..How well is this practice used along with ABA to help autistic kids or people who scripts
@cdckids3 жыл бұрын
Absolutely! And the opposite is also true! And that's what I care deeply about! Autistic children have the capacity to *develop* natural language - and ABA interferes with their progress if they are taught language that is outside their *own* developmental level.

@@cdckids It's very much important to bring more awareness of this practice among the community of people/therapists especially SLP's who work with kids on spectrum as echolalia is more commonly seen with autistic kids and the focus is spent more on to reduce it rather than to try to mould it and see if it can work for the child.Its only the superficial knowledge of the concepts/stages known or understood so far..I really do appreciate your efforts and work in this area Marge Blanc..

What’s annoying me is the emphasis on the word Gestalt proper pronunciation, where is the SH ? Are we really so superficial to the degree of apologizing for speaking the word as it sound ? Give me a break

This is woke mumbo-jumbo. The research absolutely does not establish that echolalia in ASD individuals is communicative, and speech pathology is seeing the assent of an insufferable cadre of narcissists who view themselves as uniquely attuned to their clients and impose intent and meaning on uninterpretable speech. Facilitated Communication 2.0.
