I think that the screenprinted clothes represent the trying to become something you are not, because you try to look rich and luxurious but it is not you it is just the clothing and this collection is (in my oppinion) a lot about being yourself (as bliss said in the minute 13) so the screen printed clothing say that it is no matter what you wear because it is just on you and doesnt change you. In this case presented through screenprinting the vintage garment and not using the garment. Sorry for the bad englisch lmao

love love love your review. thank you for bringing it forward. i am a little more curious about the choice of a camera to capture the vintage clothes than you could spend time on. photography teetered between elevated and cheap around the time of much of the vintage clothing. I believe the quickness of capturing an image and ease of duplicating the vintage looks served margiela. it is likely he decided to use the camera because it was cheap and quick rather than elevated and thus perfect for his clothing.

It’s niche content 🤷 I try to not get too discouraged about it. We can all thank the Patreon tho lol, without people directly supporting the channel, there’s no way I would have been able to justify making these episodes 😌

that message at the end actually brought tears to my eyes. So much of "fashion" is aspirational, but the truth is you already have everything you need to be the person you want to be. There is nothing to aspire to except what is already in you.

that screen printed mink coat is absolutely stunning.. I would love to see someone further explore that technique by modifying the texture of the fabric or making it a puff up where the fur would tuft up, or by printing fur on silk (printing one luxury textile onto another). amazing video, I loved learning about this collection!

great video! i took styling in fashion school from his main styling person during the Hermès years... she made us deconstruct and flip garments inside out and use them for different purposes from day 1. it was a trip for a lot of students that weren't familiar with his work, but i was living for it! haha one of my favorite classes ever

he was mainly inspired by clothes, it is all about deconstruction, old styles and clothing stereotypes broken down into its elements (the inside of clothes, seams, how are they made, its proportions) and reconstructed and reimagined into something new. he also was an independent designer until he was given investment/taken over into de OTB group, meaning he did not have the budgets other fashion houses did, so he does comment on this economic limitations and at the same time uses this limitation for creativity as a way of doing (by using vintage clothes, theater costumes, reusing clothes from his own other collections, transform found clothes or objects)...in this case of course it is way cheaper to print a trompe d´oile dress with an expensive material or complicated construction (hand knited, number of seams) onto a plane simple piece of cloth.

Just some thoughts-- plainwoven silk is very common, but it doesnt expose the "rawness of silk" in any way-- and plainwoven silk more than carrying any signs of class (any silk fabric is "upper class") is just more functional. Perhaps think of silk scarves sold by luxury houses The slubbyness of silk is due to the way that the yarn is produced, and where it is sourced from-- i think the interesting thing to think of between satin and plainweave the nature of the fabric i.e. satin drapes much better than plainweave-- this is because a smaller amount of interactions between warp and weft yarns (less friction) so the type and silhouette of the garment is transformed by the weaving technique which they are using as a tromp loiel facade. Its very much like in biology where the structure of the cell informs its function
