1. As difficult as it may be for some mums out there, never show any form of desperation for a househelp/nanny when interviewing them, before they start working for you or even when they are working for you. The "God bless you" message you sent her in the beginning gave her leverage to come & manipulate you. She felt you owed her for her abandoning the other job. 2. Have boundaries with your nanny/househelp. Your oversharing the previous nanny's flaws with her also gave her confidence to continue milking you😂😂. If possible, get her uniforms to keep things professional. She is not your sister, cousin or other female relative - she is an employee and should be treated respectfully but at arms' length. 3. Someone who steals and lies no matter how little or small is still guilty. You should have let her go at the point of her lying about okoa jahazi. Never let issues snowball before handling them especially if its a dealbreaker for you. 4. Be very wary of day bugs or nannies who travel between your home and theirs frequently like on weekends. You might just be shopping for 2 households. I have stories of such who basically steal house supplies from their employers. Not all are thieves but be very alert incase you have one with such a working arrangement. 5. Don't invest emotionally on househelps. Treat them respectfully and kindly but don't overindulge yourself (back to keeping boundaries).Remember they are there because you are paying them - if you had no cash to pay them, they might sympathise with you briefly but they will leave so to them cash is king.

@Angela-sn5tb2 жыл бұрын
Heeh!! Maggie, you are not a fool. Some nannies teach us so much. Saa hii nimeingia Master's ya Nanny manenoz. Let me tell you what I have learned the hard way. 1. Always interview the nanny, tell her everything that you expect her to do and focus on the importance of taking care of your kids. Discuss the salary. How she is with kids? How many kids she has? If she has been a nanny before and why did she leave her previous job? Interviews are very important. They lie for sure but you can see when they lie. You can also see if they have maneno mingi, if they will listen, if they really want the job. 2. A nanny is an employee. Treat them like family and they will loose respect for you and most probably abuse your kindness. 3. The nanny is there to make your life easier not the other way around. 4. You don't have to keep explaining why you want things done a certain way. If she doesn't listen just let her go. 5. Don't involve yourself in their personal lives because once you know their problems they think that you should help them and understand them when they need to go for offs. 6. Only 1% of all nannies are committed to the job. Most of them have zero work ethic and are just looking for some money and then they go. Try not to invest a lot of time and effort on them because when they leave it will hurt. 7. Do not befriend your nanny because if you do they will start to treat you more like a friend that they can easily manipulate. Keep it professional just the same way your boss at work is with you. Just ask how the day was. Tell them if you need something done and that's it. 8. It takes roughly a month to know your nanny a little but if something feels off just send her packing. God put these instincts in us so there is no point ignoring them especially if you have young children. 9. Buy about four deras so that they can wear something decent when they are working. I got tired of telling them to dress decently so now I just place the deras on their bed and say "ndio hio uniform". 10. Always check on them via cameras, friends or even arriving unannounced especially when they are outside. What they do in your absence is very telling of their character. 11. Always fire your nanny in the morning. Just get up at 6 and tell them to pack while you monitor and then pay them and escort them out. Just to be safe it is good to do this when there is another adult in the house. Try to be calm because some of them are prone to violence. 12. Last but not least, always PRAY. Pray for God to help you choose the right one. Keep praying for any evil intentions/baggage to be defeated. All in all most nannies have been through a lot growing up, they are not perfect so sometimes you try and understand them but never feel guilty if you say NO to their requests. Remember, they are supposed to make your life easier and if they don't then they are not worth it.

Some nannies are so good with reverse psychology. Kuna kamati in the background advising them. My policy is hutatoka huko nje kutupea stress. Period. I don't care if I will have a nanny daily but my house my rules. Am tired of being a sister to these maids.

I haven't given "What is That?" a chance because when I see two people on the screen I felt disheartened, like, "So no more stories?" and didn't bother to subscribe with this channel. I think it's because I could also really relate to many of your experiences. This popped up in my feed yesterday and I'm going to watch it and the other video again. I hope I've expressed myself kindly.. and I trust that God is helping and building and strengthening you, and that you now, like me, FINALLY have a good nanny.

Nannys are a special kind of employees, because we leave them with our most treasured people, our kids. So, it is easy to want to accommodate them more than other ordinary employees. This also means that the turnover is high, because for me, I do not take chances, if I feel something is off, especially something that affects my child (not feeding, cleaning, and taking care of her), I let them go right there and then. Mambo ya kazi za nyumba, etc., I reasonably compromise, sometimes I even get external help. My nanny knows this, and my daughter is treated like the princess she is in my house.

Having a day burg around 40yrs or more. I had noticed things were missing in my kitchen but in small quantities like One egg, you just notice the cooking oil feels lighter,... One day I did my usual monthly shopping. Restocked up on everything, had bought 7kg of rice. This time round I was deliberate on imefika wapi in the container. When I came back from work my hubby had gotten home earlier than me so he let her go before I got home, she used to carry a big black empty handbag which she certainly left with. So when I got into the kitchen, first thing I noticed was a drastic fall in the level of the rice by almost a kg and a half, 2 eggs were missing, kwenda Kwa fridge I had bought tomatoes za 3 for 10bob za 200 and half of them were gone plus other groceries. I called her, she obviously denied except for eggs she said alipika Moja akakula. For me it's once bitten twice shy. I moved everything bought in bulk to our bedroom and I lock it plus lock the fridge and keep the key Kwa bedroom. Ata sukari I leave her like 3 table spoons and still I found out this weekend that she takes a little and puts the rest in a paper bag ya mkate, anaiaccumulate maybe ndio abebe when it's a good amount. This time round I decided even the shopping I do for her sitamfanyia. Let's be strictly professional. N don't forget detergents, uuuuuwi my 1kg of sunlight washes clothes 2 rounds and it's done. Weeeeee it's a real deal. But now we are working just fine coz she doesn't have all that access to alot of stuff. It's hard. I appreciate the few good DMs you guys should teach the rest.

Just fired mine two weeks ago. Took her to college two months after she arrived to pursue her catering dream and was gone mon to friday from 6am to 6pm and worked all weekends; was paying her fees and deducting from her salary and bought her catering items...had sensed she was stealing and removed a few valuables in sight. One day she walks in wearing my golden chain and says it is hers and i sleep over it for two days and ask her to show me her golden chain after she secretly replaced it in my bedroom while cleaning. When she showed me a very different chain, I searched her room and she had stolen clothes, school books, phone, watch, etc....and later I discover a missing tablet, kindle and phone full of memories. Most painful was finding my son's white boxer shorts stained in menstrual flow (never mind she had access to pads and was free to take what she needed) and seeing a photo of her biting a full roasted goat leg after christmas before warming it for us!; semi nude photos in the kitchen, my son's room and dining room... On checking her phone, it is full of the worst forms of porn; conversations with friends that suggest she had an STI recently; has been trading in the flesh; was spying and sharing about our whereabouts with the guard; was in shady girls clubs whose content is primarily peddling porn and other immoralities...real betrayal from someone I treated like my own daughter, allowed her to school mon to friday and paid her fees upfront; and the most the mother can say is forgive her yet she will not accept responsibility even after signing she stole all the items we found in her SQ. Use your gut instinct and act on first red flag; have boundaries; invest in cctv and some mistrust is healthy; sneak up and find out what is going on before it kills you!.

You are hilarious, and patient. I have had a similar experience with the home phone. Gave to a new nanny as she had no phone. Told her I'm stepping out but expecting a relative so I will call to alert her to let her in. Relative hadn't arrived by the time I was back, but nanny was in the kitchen calling all her family. This was the second red flag, the first was that she never made eye contact with me and when I wanted to show her where the local duka was, she insisted on walking way ahead or behind me. I told myself to calm down regarding the phone and just take it away from her, she was still making calls using my airtime. Next I called her so that we could prepare dinner, she didn't respond. I walked to the kitchen, found she had fallen and was like having a fit. I immediately called her relative who had brought her the following day to find out if she had medical condition. Relative told me that she had actually spoken to her via my phone and the story she gave is that she had scrolled the TV channels after I stepped out, had come across a Tele-evangelist making an alter call and called the number on the screen and immediately she started feeling dizzy. I had had it, she lasted two days. I asked them to come for her immediately and facilitated their transport.

Great story telling and rib cracking.....tutapangana aje mama Rwani???...I have had similar experiences and key lesson....don't let the saying 'ako poa na mtoto....wameelewana na watoto' blind you....change is inevitable and there is always someone else out there....and the said children are growing...take a day at a time...I am your new follower ...

Maggie aki you are just over so nice. People can manipulate you for being so nice. This one was a master manipulator aki. It's like you were taking care of her as your own baby and not your employee. First of all, you had no obligation over her financial situation surely after even offering Hera job. Wooii. Nimekasirika on your behalf, but I enjoyed the story😃 Also, yes Kuna wale hukuja na madawa guys. Pray before employing these people

My advice...be good and humane to them but don't allow them to emotionally blackmail you. The moment you see red flags...let her go. My kids are now grown up n I no longer employ nannys. But an older friend once told me that ..mtoto hajawekelewa mawe...just to quote. Every day is a milestone. All the best but a time will come when you no longer need a nanny.

I was a nanny sometime back for 2 years, the family took me to college after two years, and the daddy of the house looked for a job for me after school that am doing to date, am their first born Dota in short. Relationship with your nannies depends on how you treat them the first days they started working for you.

But there are some nannies who think you are desperate when you treat them good and they start to frustrate you.

Our nanny worked for us till my parents passed away, I mean all of them passed away, she started I think at 13 or 14 years old, daddy took ger to school, she was pregnant, gave birth at her village ,in her absence, we hired some, but were not as good as her, later she came back and she was just good. Myself personally, I had one for 8 years, a good one ,she and the husband relocated to the village, during Corona. After that I'm really struggling to get one who can stay,

Having worked as a nanny while in college I have a lot of respect for all the ladies that do that,unfortunately I see some Kenyan ladies comments here and it's a disgrace to themselves on their expectations of these women. Pay them good salaries,bonuses and overtime n they will work n go beyond for you.If you can't then just expect excuses ,disappointment from them. Stop hiring them for 2 positions ,housekeepers and nanny and expect them to outperform.Choose 1 and hire someone for the other or do it yourselves . Treat them as you would a friend n you all be happy,am talking from experience after working some years as a nanny to a lady who is one of the top 5 women in the shipping industry in EU, and now one of my closest friends and godmother to my daughter I can tell you you get what you pay for.
@KAIZORIANEMPIRE3 жыл бұрын
for some of them this is true but in general many of them steal , i pay ine good money but still had bad experiences. This good nanny depends on the person.. unfortunately you just need good referrals and yes pay them good.
@wanjirus48093 жыл бұрын
Your opinion. Some of these girls can not be helped. Utakuwa emotionally invested, pay them really well, buy them personal items but ultimately, they'll disappoint you. Doesn't matter of you pay well, they'll still steal, cheat and lie. Most of them lack emotionally maturity
@dorinemuthui89553 жыл бұрын
A good person is a good person period.! You can give good salaries and bonuses and still be manipulated. There are terrible people in the society.. A majority. Tbe good ones are few. If you were on one good for you and your employer.

yaani your maid really reminds me of Rose (maid) who had the exact tabia ya kuomba ruhusa anyhow and advance money... waah but she was really good I tell you to the point I never noticed she used to beat my 4 months daughter vibaya, my daughter alikuwa anamkataa but sioni waah kumbe I think pia ni kama niliwekewa juju, good thing I had cameras in the house and my connection with my daughter was so deep to the point I could feel sth is not right at home nikiwa job, wacha and she the audacity to deny. Though I taught her some small lessons, still to date that act terrolizes me mbaya. Pia mimi nimeolewa na omwanchi I understand hiyo kitu unasema ukimshow what you are undergoing with the maid and they laugh, why do they do that though ?!

Beautiful hair.❤️ ...big difference between trying to save someone i.e. helping them escape the reality of life and being kind. The former makes gets you used and taken for granted. You will be giving to someone to drink or even give the cash to a boyf or girlf at your expense. Unfortunately/fortunately I learnt this last year. No one saves me, not saving anyone else either. I deal with all my problems and live by my means. *Not just about DMS but about humans in general.
