Cao Shuang: The position of Supreme Commander is cursed. Sima Yi: They were held by imbeciles. It feels that Sima Yi really didn't care about the power play until Cao Shuang started to encroach on his personal safety. The greatest of the Eight-Das would definitely have fought back if he wanted to.

I like your chart of the imperial court. I like charts like this. But a few questions: 1. Why is the 'Grand Commandant' grouped with the excellency positions of 司徒 and 司空 instead of 司馬 in the Three Excellencies 三司 ?? Seems imbalanced to me. 2. If there is a Tai Fu 太傅 where are the other two preceptors 太師 and 太保 ... these Three Preceptors were once the highest officials under the Zhou Dynasty. 3. Where does the Nine Courts 九卿 fit into the Wei Court, was it above or below the Secretariat? I have read it was under the Wei Dynasty that the Nine Rank System was invented, can you elaborate?

1. 三司 is a Tang Dynasty term. In the Han and Wei the three positions are called 三公. 2. The Zhou system was changed by the Qin which was adopted by the Han and then Wei so it has been this system since. 3. The nine ministers would rank above the imperial secretaries who works in the imperial secretariat but the imperial secretariat was definitely the more powerful entity and can be arguably even more powerful than even the grand excellencies since they can control what the Emperor hear and see.

another thing to note is that since 太师and 太保 had no real duties or powers they were often given out to people posthumously and not usually given to people who were alive. This was a particularly common practice during and after the Jin Dynasty.

This is from the second season of advisor alliance which is a tv drama that has Sima Yi as the main character set during the Three Kingdoms. I find this series leaps and bounds better than the 2010 show. Also the actor did not take part in the 2010 show.
