I was there on that unforgettable evening sitting in my stalls seat.It was the most wonderful experience that I shall never forget in 50 odd years of ballet going.She should have been buried in Westminster Abbey,she was Ballet royalty we will never forget her.

Two years later hearing and watching and....I am loving it just the same. Greatness always lasts as this will last 100 years or more, I believe. Oh such beauty almost overwhelms me. I do love wonderful dance and music...Margot has that certain something that sets her apart from all others. Thank you, Markie and YT!

A truly amazing, wonderful dancing woman! In shoes with slight heels and a smile always on her face! In my reading, I found that I think Dame Margot had always loved Sir Frederick Ashton. And, he adored her. Dame Margot to me was a once in a lifetime kind of personage, and aren't we fortunate to have actually seen her dancing? Thanks!

You can feel the palpable bond of love between her and the audience. Such a bond comes rarely to an artist. It does not come automatically with virtuosity, though virtuosity is required. In my lifetime I have seen it with Beverly Sills, Yo-Yo Ma, Yuja Wong, and Marianela Nuñez. It is God's gift to both the artist and the audience.

In a documentary on Margot Fontey I have recently watched on YT one of the interviewees said that he was still angry about that performance; he claimed that she had been crippled at that time and should not have had to dance in front of the audience. Apparently Fonteyn had said that the audience had come to watch "a freak".

I have seen the same documentary and agree with the interviewee. She was penniless at the end and essentially danced these 'fundraisers' for herself. Why didn't the dance community provide her a pension so she could live decently? Even at the end they extracted their pound of flesh to make her 'dance for her supper'. The Arias family also were such ingrates. RIP to Margot - what a legend.

@@dmmchugh3714 Having watched some documentaries about her and with her, I have come to the conclusion that, sadly, she was rather naive and perhaps tended to repress what she did not like or did not understand. As Fonteyn's school teacher warned her when she was leaving school for good quite young and as she admitted it herself, she lacked education and the awareness of the world outside ballet. I also think the husband and his family exploited her.

И виновато в этом правительство и королева Англии. Танцевальное сообщество здесь ни при чём. Кроме зрителей, которые её любили, были и завистники, поэтому она осталась без пенсии, и её завистники и враги были рады видеть её плохие годы. У всех успешных людей есть завистники и враги
