I just saw/heard Mari Boine perform live in Seattle last night, at the new Nordic Museum! I've been dying to see her live for over 20 years, and finally the dream came true! And the hall in the museum turned out to be too small, as the concert was completely sold out--and this was a pleasant shock to Ms. Boine, her bandmates, managers, etc., as she has never performed in Seattle before! They had no idea if folks in Seattle had ever heard of her. But it turned out that she's got plenty of fans out here, enough to fill a medium-sized lecture hall to capacity! I do hope she comes back to see us again soon (I'm aware that she hasn't come to the U.S. very often); we'll need a bigger venue next time! She sounded wonderful; and these same two guys and herself made a big, terrific sound! And it was very sweet to meet her briefly in a short meet-and-greet afterwards. Hopefully, we'll see her again in not too long... :)

Lucky you! And you saw and heard Mari just before the pandemic madness shut down the world. Her Big Medicine healing music sadly couldn't stop that.... We need her Sami people's music. All Indigenous music and healing practices, to get back to natures' ways of healing. We're doomed if we don't...

She has a voice that could cover the north territories without any amplification easy!

Isn't it incredible when you realize you're "hearing" more instruments than you are seeing being played?

Is she really a Sami? She doesn't resemble the Sami people. I hope she isn't appropriating the cultural music for her own profit.

Mari Boine is certainly Sami, as were both her parents. Sami and Norse people have likely intermarried for centuries, which may have influenced the features of both groups; but that doesn't make today's Sami people any less Sami. Just saying...
