Treasure singer. I actually got her English album many years ago,but I have no idea she was this good live.

Mari Hamada has always been brilliant since she was doing Hard Rock /Metal music back in the early 80's but never had the chance to see her. Greetings from London UK
A very unique singer in Japan who’s blended multiple styles -rock and enka - and has healthy technique and STAMINA! At her level, you need to have good technique and use your mix and mask as well as constant support. That’s what gives you longevity. It reminds me of Chaka Khan and how she modified to using less chest-dominant belts instead using more mask and she’s still singing her old classics in her 60s!
@routetmarihamadafan73522 жыл бұрын
Yes, I agree with all you've said~ Actually, Mari used to utilize more chest ratios before, but she's come to the conclusion that heady mix was better for sound, probably hehe. It depends on what she wants~~ Thank you for watching ~

@@routetmarihamadafan7352 The skill exists to do everything as before but chest belts can no longer go as high just because of age (and also because it’s more starting on an aging voice). The vocal cords change in elasticity so it’s just biology and physics. (Edit: First paragraph, meant to say "straining" instead of "starting")

Hello! A little reminder to you all: mari uses very special vibrato that is influenced by enka singing. It is not a sign of her bad technique! Link to the Mangata - her arguably the best performance in terms of vocals and composition: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bKnaZ5trbNCkaM0
@TheSeeking2know2 жыл бұрын
Very correct about the enka vibrato. In Western classical it may sound like it’s not the preferred type but it’s cultural to Japan. Same with Shigin (Yuko Suzuhana) though that uses a brighter presentation it seems.

@@routetmarihamadafan7352 I like her vibrato in the upper fifth and in sixth octave actually because it sounds more dramatic like that but lower than that not so much😅

I actually think that the language has an impact over time! Korean is more amenable to free-flowing singing, Japanese and Philippino language a bit less so, but English is kinda troublesome with its consonants so there’s seemingly more risk of glottal attacks and tension while singing. I think that affects long term strain (for extreme vocal athletes) and maybe - just maybe - consistency and longevity…
@routetmarihamadafan73522 жыл бұрын
Actually I believe it's language barrier in her case. Sohyang for example doesn't have global attacks in English, but mari does because she doesn't practice it, just using in songs 😅
@TheSeeking2know2 жыл бұрын
@@routetmarihamadafan7352 You’re right about Sohyang having more fluency and less of a barrier in pronunciation English lyrics. She was just interested in it from afar (singing her favorite songs) , though she doesn’t really speak it well (not enough grammar and immersion). I do think that language and the different placement to sing a particular language well (with acceptable pronunciation to the native speakers) is a challenge.
@routetmarihamadafan73522 жыл бұрын
@Olatunde Fajimi oh, definitely yes! Mari is struggling to find a healthy placement for vowels using English. Also, I don't know how to write it, but there's a katakana in the Japanese language. It has words from English that are taken. So, singing them, mari faces glottal attacks. Of course, it doesn't matter that much but still can be present ^^ Also, she, for the first time, showed the head voice(that B5 omg), the couplets full of low notes, and very high mixing. Her mid belts became fuller, brighter, and have that ringing quality down to G4. Although sometimes her voice is fragile, I think it's just tiredness because it was the last concert of the tour as always(everything I have and we all have by buying concerts - latest ones from every tour)
@TheSeeking2know Жыл бұрын
@@routetmarihamadafan7352 I learned something new (about the katakana adapted from English). Thank you! I do feel that if the Japanese school system did a better job at teaching the spoken English language they would afford their creatives and business people a greater competitive advantage in the global market. In my view, Japanese popular music is higher in variety of styles and uniqueness than the Korean market (which is dominated by the Hip-hop and R&B influenced K-Pop), but Korean artists are stronger in English so it’s easier for them to appeal directly to a Western, English-speaking audience in the long run. Duets with Western rock stars and covers or reimagining of popular classic Western music is one way to get the attention of especially the older (paying) audiences that came up in the 60s, 70s, 80s, and 90s. We know the Japanese are excellent at remixing (and sometimes improving some) classic Western music and art, and incorporating it seamlessly with their own music/art to create something new. Mari should be a much bigger star globally (in my opinion) on her raw vocal ability and touring stamina alone! Same with many gifted and unique artists from all sorts of genres. Babymetal, for example, combined the cuteness (and youth) of their front girls, the absolute novelty of mixing JPop vocals, descriptive dancing (from the venerable choreographer MIKIKO), unadulterated, high-level metal music, and incredibly focused marketing and mythical themes, to break through the language barrier and tap into deeper psychological and universal commonalities even though they sang exclusively in Japanese in most of their songs.

@@routetmarihamadafan7352 She’s at the level of Chaka Khan and other vocal juggernaut of rock and metal anywhere in the world. Of course she also has her unique vocal styling influenced directly or indirectly by traditional singing (enka, maybe).
