Mari Mathias - Annwn

Mae sengl ddiweddaraf Mari Mathias, "Annwn" (sef yr 'arallfyd' ym mytholeg Cymru) yn defnyddio chwedlau, caneuon traddodiadol a melodïau gwerin wreiddiol. Recordiodd y sengl, a’r albwm o’r un enw, gyda Mei Gwynedd o Recordiau JigCal. Roedd hi a’i band gwerin yn arbrofi gyda cherddoriaeth werin a chreu cysylltiad rhwng cerddoriaeth draddodiadol a synau a themâu cyfoes ar yr albwm.
Mae Annwn yn ystyried cysylltiad â thirwedd, bywyd ac anifeiliaid gwyllt. Mae’r gân yn cael ysbrydoliaeth o elfennau o fytholeg dywyll, hanes Geltaidd, ac o ‘American Horror Story’. Mae’r dylanwadau rhain i’w canfod yn y fideo hefyd a gafodd ei saethu ym mhentref hudolus Portmeirion.
Roedd Annwn yn arallfyd llawn tylwyth teg y bysai Mari yn dianc iddo fel plentyn. Roedd Mari eisiau defnyddio’r gân yma i archwilio themâu hudol yn ogystal ag edrych ar themâu sy’n berthnasol i heddiw. Fel actores ac ysgrifenyddes sgript a wnaeth astudio BA Perfformio yng Nghaerdydd, roedd hi’n awyddus iawn i ddod ag elfennau theatraidd i’r caneuon ac i’r fideos i alluogi’r gynulleidfa i ymgolli’n llwyr yn ei byd hi.
