The sound quality is improved in almost every regard when compared to other CD releases. Let me know what you think :)
I should also add that the audio quality of the CD/download is better than presented here - there is a metallic element that is not present in my release. My guess is it's a matter of the video making/youtube conversion process.

It would be amazing if you released versions of these remasters with the prompters and audience preserved. It adds an even better atmosphere of a live performance, plus the already magnificent work you've done with the music and vocals. Viva La Callas!

I dunno. I find it very annoying when it comes to a crucial part of an aria, and someone in the audience lets out a loud cough in the silence. Or a prompter shouts something. Of course i keep all the applause, and other important audience audio (it's just coughs i remove for the most part). As for the rest of the work, if the source is good, as it was here, it's a matter of repairing what is broken, and removing the unwanted (distortion, pops and clicks etc). I don't mess with the EQ at all.

@@CallasfanRecordings ah alright then, very nice work you do. All I'm able to do with the limited tools I have, is remove/reduce frequencies that cause that annoying low-frequency hum, and re-EQ the whole recording to give it a more modern feel. Of course, it works great with clear sources, like your BJR transfers and such, but when it comes to commercial releases... yeah, the removal of the high-frequencies to remove the noise and hiss really damages the quality. I do my best, but it just isn't the same. You are quite lucky to have sources that are close to the original transcription disks, keep up the great work!

Great job! By the way, the "Son geloso" final high note is a high C. In 1955 Callas was slightly sharp.

Every remastering depends on the original source used and how accurate in sound, frequency, lack of distortion and clarity it is. There is only so much that can be done and if one has bought several remastering (even those from the major labels) it gets very, very expensive. I hear the Pristine Audio remasterings but there comes a point where my hearing is going so I’ll miss out on the new benefits. I really don’t know how well the EMI/Warner big box set of 69 CDs was remastered even though I own it (and Pristine Audio is doing them over gradually.) I remember the box set of “live” performances were a mixed set due the sources that EMI/Warner used. The ‘52 London NORMA and ‘55 Berlin LUCIA were very good because of work done to get a good broadcast. Others were poor (‘55 Milan TRAVIATA) or the ARMIDA which had a sound drop out, but others sources of that performance are complete. And there’s the Walter Legge personal collection of I VESPRI SICILIANA, ‘58 Lisbon TRAVIATA and ‘57 Edinburg SONNAMBULA. We’re that he got off his ass to have studio recordings of MacBETH, ANNA BOLENA, TRAVIATA, ERNANI utilizing a far better conductor than Votto. But in light of Russia and the Ukraine, there are more important issues at hand.

Here you can really hear Callas was a coloratura soprano. Much of this is very beautifully sung.

No, she was a soprano with great coloratura technique, but her voice was much larger (and much more beautiful) than any other Aminas.

@@BaroneVitellioScarpia1 all of her lifts and vocal positions are exactly coloratura. Size means nothing. Look at sutherland. Plus callas opened on top on an A rather than an F like all other sopranos. She just was an exceptional coloratura. I will stay with Ponselle' s perfect assessment of her voice. If you heard her sing live you'd know. Recordings are deceitful. No one but a coloratura can sing Lakme bell song in the original key... even light coloraturas have problems with it. Sutherland transposed it down right away.

I think another way to say this is that Callas was a dramatic coloratura _with_ the proviso that a dramatic coloratura is absolutely not a dramatic soprano, and is in fact lighter than even lirico spinto.
