I'm glad they haven't gone for the whole CG character animation for the dancing and movement with the music. Even though some complain about lip-syncing issues, I definitely prefer the usual animation style for these kind of scenes. CGs are just too uncanny for me, though some pull it off well if the whole series was CGed like Arpeggio of Blue Steel and Knights of Sidonia Edit: to those wondering what i mean by uncanny CG, I usually use Love Live as an example. That change between animation and CG is glaringly obvious.

I would say they pushed it a little by GX which was still good. But AXZ and XV just regressed character development especially Tsubasa's all to have her and others learn the same lesson again about not being a sword and how songs can help people. Yeah, Symphogear was good until GX. AXZ and XV unfortunately tipped it over the edge into mediocre. Mot bad but not especially great either unlike the first 3 series.

@@JustAnotherPerson4U It's pretty ironical how most people have the exact opposite opinion about AXZ and XV haha I guess that just proves the number one rule about Symphogear: "The more you think about it, the less fun you have. Just sit down and enjoy the action" It's a silly anime, that embraces its silliness with over the top action and visuals. The plot is nothing incredible, we all know that, but hey, if a wanted a serious plot, I wouldn't be watching this hahaha (Hope this reply doesn't cause any negative feelings)

Well, America and Europe can actually be very creative and funny (Adventure Time, Regular Show, Rick and Morty, etc), when it comes to cartoons, but when it's about putting into your cartoons visual quality, gorgeous design, alternative music and going in deep Japan steam-rolls them, even Disney before they went full 3D can be easily matched by many anime shows, I mean, shall we really make a VS between Disney princesses and the Sympho-girls in terms of character development, combat skills and actual real-life problems? No, I think not (although it seems like RWBY, which isn't Disney, can give them a run for their money).

It still mind boggles me that Sunrise couldn't do hand-drawn animations for the dance sequence in Love Live and instead went with the shortcut of using celshade CGI, when a smaller studio like Satelight can do something this good in Symphogear and Macross Delta.

well both are trying to sell different things Sunrise is trying to sell their idol games through their anime, and they already have the CGI tech from the games so why not use what they have to show what they really want to sell While the people behind Symphogear are only really trying to sell this original anime series and everything else is just extra. Same with Macross I believe.

Animating 9 dancers is harder than animating a duo or trio like most Satelight shows do. It's why the A-Rise or Saint Snow performance scenes in LL are the ones that get super fluid hand-drawn animation (like this: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rqS7p5Jtgb6paKM) while the actual main characters are stuck with the CGI
