Yes, I saw the movie in a movie theater in New York City. This "Oscar worthy" film is only playing in a handful of movie theaters nationwide while Gladiator 2 has opened to over 3,000 movie theaters nationwide and has not earned the title of "Oscar Worthy." I notice that as the years pass the Oscar nominations seem to go the films that hardly anyone gets to see because they open at only dozen or so theaters nationwide while the huge crowd pleasing films seem to open everywhere.

I saw Maria Callas perform when I was four years old as Madame Butterfly thanks to my father at Carnegie Hall - the old Met Opera & again in Greece at her last performance as Medea in the old Amphitheater as the mad Medea with Greek friends including Melania Mercouri, etc. …about 45 years ago…I don’t mean to be rude and I’ve seen Anna Netrebko who comes as close as anyone ever has..but this film and Dame Angelina who was Knighted by the late Queen Elizabeth (for her amazing Humanitarian work on behalf of woman & children all over the World but never uses it nor talks about it and has been endlessly & ceaselessly disrespected here in this really ignorant country!!)-gives the performance of the CENTURY AS MARIA CALLAS! She even studied opera for TWO YEARS before filming one scene just to have an understanding an feeling for what she would be doing! You critics, professional & otherwise, simply have no IDEA what you are talking about but I - having seen, heard and followed the actual Maria Callas, both on stage & her life - can tell you that Angelina & this film does a SUPERB JOB of capturing the BEAUTY & TRAGEDY that Marked the END of the LIFE of the Greatest Divacof all time!

Indeed- I was a very lucky blessed child & had the best Father who also taught me there was no Disney /no Cinderella story for me with some man putting a glass slipper on my foot but rather taught me about The Arabian Nights & Scherezade so I became a storyteller-the one in charge -at 4/5 years old-by keeping myself alive with my stories/my wits! It helped having a name like Petra in the Bronx back in the 40s when no one ever heard of it and we were still in the Dark Ages like NOW in America! Angelina loved another story I told her at the premiere & bent down from the stage & shook my hand - it was about a chapter in my memoir I hope to write one day called @The Three Brads” -all tall, blond handsome actors-all full of shit, two of them world famous, only mine was not!

Unfortunately Jollie is Jollie, not Maria. Jackie or Diana (previous subjects of the director) might be loved and remembered a lot, but Callas' fandom is totally a different ball game, because unlike the other ladies, Callas' legacy is still very much alive (any female opera singer post Callas cannot avoid to walk in her shadow whether she likes it or not). Callas as the artist was uncannily intelligent, hard working and grand, but as a person, she was pretty simple, direct and down to earth. Maria portrayed here is too affected and melodramatic... and I'm pretty sure Callas fans won't be very happy about it. PS. why the hack did they choose 'O mio babbino' for the trailer? That aria has very little to do with Callas' art and career.

The movie isn't aimed at opera fans - among the movie-going public we hardly exist. Very few people now living know or care who and what Callas was. If the movie were aimed at Callas fans, well, try selling tickets to a small group of old farts like you and me. All those involved were intent on making a movie, a good movie, not a documentary, a money-making movie, not an art-house succès d'estime, a blockbuster, hopefully not Gladiator II, the winner of several Academy Awards, including best picture. Let's hope it's a good movie, maybe even a great movie. And if it sucks, let's not allow that to put our noses out of joint.

I knew not Billie Holliday or Mae West or any Barrymore's other than Drew; but know well of them and their work. Extensively! You do not have to be part of a generation to know of greatness. But Portman and Stewart looked more similar to those parts than Jolie resembles Callas. The nose is such a prominent feature of Callas’ appearance that it just doesn’t look real. Average film who only got the Oscar because it was a trans story and the academy wanted to be seen as progressive. The movie he directed about Diana was terrible. I’m not too excited about this. I hope it’s not another Diana.

The people that are sayng that Angelina Jolie got Maria speaking voice and accent are deluded. They probably never saw a documentary of Maria Calla. They all seems to be fans of Angelina and will see greatness in all she does . I can't believe how all the comments are about Angelina performance but none about the film, Maria or even if any of this is true.

Well, I’m sorry to say it, but I wasn’t blown away with her acting. I’m very critical of her acting and her performances. They should have just given this role to an Italian actress instead of Jolie.
