Unfortunately Jollie is Jollie, not Maria. Jackie or Diana (previous subjects of the director) might be loved and remembered a lot, but Callas' fandom is totally a different ball game, because unlike the other ladies, Callas' legacy is still very much alive (any female opera singer post Callas cannot avoid to walk in her shadow whether she likes it or not). Callas as the artist was uncannily intelligent, hard working and grand, but as a person, she was pretty simple, direct and down to earth. Maria portrayed here is too affected and melodramatic... and I'm pretty sure Callas fans won't be very happy about it. PS. why the hack did they choose 'O mio babbino' for the trailer? That aria has very little to do with Callas' art and career.

The movie isn't aimed at opera fans - among the movie-going public we hardly exist. Very few people now living know or care who and what Callas was. If the movie were aimed at Callas fans, well, try selling tickets to a small group of old farts like you and me. All those involved were intent on making a movie, a good movie, not a documentary, a money-making movie, not an art-house succès d'estime, a blockbuster, hopefully not Gladiator II, the winner of several Academy Awards, including best picture. Let's hope it's a good movie, maybe even a great movie. And if it sucks, let's not allow that to put our noses out of joint.

I like that Jolie has tackled this legend - BUT! just like Zellweger when she enacted "Judy" neither of these actors really knew their subjects. By that I mean they took deep dives when prepping BUT! were not lifelong fans of these iconic women. You have ppl such as myself who've loved and followed these womens lives for years! These women - Callas & Judy - are sacred. They're not Hollywood roles. I wish Jolie had entrenched herself in Callas a few years -- not months. I will however support the film & have already purchased my theater ticket! I love Maria!!

I'll give it a watch, but a flat-nosed Maria Callas is unfortunately going to take me out of the movie and make me all too aware of the fact that it's Jolie playing her. Callas had a classic Greek nose which was part of her iconic beauty. Otherwise, Jolie's jawline, cheekbones and eye shape aren't so radically dissimilar...the makeup team was SO CLOSE. 🤦‍♀

And yes, it would have been harder to suspend disbelief had she kept her little button nose. I thought Bradley Cooper did a pretty good job as Bernstein, the main controversy was that many Jewish audiences are apparently tired of seeing non-Jewish actors always getting roles for famous Jewish icons or main characters, and him needing a prosthetic nose to play a Jew sort of compounded that feeling. I'm not Jewish, so it's not for me to tell them how they should feel about representation in films. Re: "You should know that." Okay then, thanks for your input.

Everyone knows what she looked like. Woolf wasn’t in show biz. Jolie looks nothing like her. They haven’t even changed her nose. This just looked like Angelina in nice dresses nothing more.

But Portman and Stewart looked more similar to those parts than Jolie resembles Callas. The nose is such a prominent feature of Callas’ appearance that it just doesn’t look real. I could actually believe Kristen as Diana because she looked more like her. This just looks like Jolie wearing couture dresses and being dramatic.

I’m not sure but it looks like Jolie is doing a wonderful job on such a complex personality. Callas was so tragic and definitely no saint. She stated performance was her only reason for living. The way she rejected her family was horrible. That quote about their poverty not being her problem and having no regrets. It’s all so sad. And she gave up everything for love of Ari Onassis, who was such a horrible person who treated her poorly. She loved him so much. I remember after he married Jackie Kennedy she moved nearby and, when he wasn’t beating and denigrating Kennedy he would be with Callas. Her attitude was even a moment of his time was worth her waiting and suffering. An extremely complex woman and tragic figure. I still listen to her albums. What a voice.💐💐💐

jolie can't be Callas, she lacks the greek temperament. She made her look small and too vulnerable, callas was a warrior, with a broken heart, but still a warrior, outspoken, allegra, ambitious till the end and yet broken inside. A true artist. Jolie can't give this range of characteristics.

Let us remember that Maria, after all, is human: she also had her moments of vulnerability and that deep down she never felt protected. She didn't want to fight anymore, but she had to do it for herself because no one was going to do it for her; In fact, Maria hated more than anything that she was always seen as someone unattainable (an idol). So please, let's stop romanticizing the suffering of a person who throughout her life felt alone and who only wanted a calmer life.

I've just learnt that the singing parts are a blend of Angelia's own voice and of another person's. The film, I suppose, will mostly be judged on the acting, but I've always wondered if Angelina herself can actually sing (not being judgemental, just out of genuine curiosity as an ardent fan of hers). There are conflicting examples: in the 1999 film, *_Girl, Interrupted_* there's a short scene where her character sings *_"Downtown"_* by _Petula Clark,_ and she starts out okay in the beginning and then goes out of tune as the song progresses (it could also be a deliberate choice for her character), secondly in the 2002 film *_Life or Something Like It_* there's a scene where she sings _"(I Can Get No) Satisfaction,"_ by _The Rolling Stones_ and she sings it quite flat (this could also be a deliberate choice to do so) and then in the 2001film *_Original Sin,_* starring her and Antonio Banderas, there's a short clip of her at the piano and singing and her voice sounds quite lovely in that scene....

And if you isolate her voice, at the end, she _is_ actually singing the same melody, but in another key with the relative pitches all accounted for... I like the soft form of fragility portrayed by Angelina Jolie as Maria Callas in this trailer. Perhaps it is an indication of who she is: caring, lost and vulnerable but at the same time assertive, independent and creative. Keen to see this film to see what lays ahead 🤍
