Ugh. You can see from Lucy's expression that Kate is asking a lot of her to hide their relationship. She is willing to compromise, but honesty and straightforwardness IS Lucy. Being secretive also means that Lucy has to hide who she is. It's going to culminate to a situation where someone is going to get hurt, really badly. This reeks of heartbreak. I hope Kate can break out of her shell and be brave, otherwise she is going to lose Lucy.

The dialogue here .. clearly straight people. "Embarrassed". Being private is not the same thing as being embarrassed. Kate is a woman with career aspirations in a male dominated field - she doesn't want her private life derailing any opportunities for her. And it would be great if she didn't have to worry about it, but even in 2022 its a problem. One could argue its a bigger problem in 2022 than its been since Reagan. Why are writers so bad these days?

Kate Whistler wanted to keep her relationship with Lucy a secret because: One, she is still in a relationship with Cara at this time; two, Kate doesn’t want to be the subject of an office gossip; three, she doesn’t to get fired if the agency finds out if there’s a conflict of interest having to date an agent from another agency; lastly, she is not sure what she wants.

Kate cannot open herself up to being vulnerable because she feels like she isn't in control. Not saying Kate is a control freak, but opening up and being vulnerable infront of people where she is the outsider can be uncomfortable for some people. That, and this relationship is essentially growing in a work setting....something Kate has probably never dealt with before.
