i feel like she could have done a lot more of her "prime" or studio adlibs and climaxes if it weren't for the fact that she 1) is used to lipsyncing them, 2) is worried about potentially fucking up, and 3) is basically in constant competition with her younger self. the ability's been there, but a combination of habit, insecurity, and risk aversion really limited her :/ like, i think she could have done the we belong together climax in 2013

i agree so hard! always thought she should lip less and dodge more. i'd appreciate that a lot, and the tracks really held her back during this era from giving us more great moments. i'd rather get a show where she improvizes in the moment and showcases her musicality instead of hearing new playback tracks but it is what it is
