This is one of Mariah's EVERGREENS. It is one of her few songs that still get played a lot internationally on radio, along with Hero, We Belong Together, Without You and All I Want For Christmas Is You (during the holidays). Great classic. It's high time for you to listen to her cover of I STILL BELIEVE, her tribute to 80's pop singer Brenda K. Starr, whom Mariah was a backup singer back in the day, and who introduced her to Tommy Mottola, who gave Mariah her first big break, and the rest is history. Mariah's version was much more successful than the original.

yeah the styles are different and recently I gave Brenda's version a good listen for the first time in its entirety and I think I prefer Brenda;s version because of that 80s sound and just the way she sang it. Mariahs version is great too though

The video was filmed on the site of the charity sponsored by Mariah, the Fresh Air Camp, in northern New York. This is one of the most popular songs from her and she always makes sure to sing it in every single show . It debuted in second place in the Billboard Hot 100 edition of April 6, 1996, behind "Because you loved me", by Celine Dion and later on got first place for 4 weeks . I remember when this video debuted! I was in 5th grade and my family was leaving to go somewhere and it had been advertised that during an awards show or something on MTV that this video would debut at this time. My parents waited for me until the video was shown for us to leave but then during the show they teased that this video was coming up before every commercial and everyone was getting annoyed cuz we had somewhere to be, lol. Finally it came on and then from that day on it was everywhere on mtv & vH1all day long!

I have so many amazing memories with this song as the final song they play at one of the clubs I go to. Not ONE person not singing along - it’s just the perfect end to a night for everyone. A unifying moment. Also, worth mentioning that her live performance of Anytime You Need A Friend at the Tokyo Dome is probably one of, if not my favorite performance from her. You seem to enjoy her musicality, and how she switches up the arrangements, so I think you’d enjoy it. The lyrics also are quite beautiful. She wrote it from God’s perspective, speaking to her, at one of the hardest and loneliest times of her life.

Hey Jack, I really have to recommend you to listen to Runway, it is from Mariah's latest era. Runway is a Japan bonus track from her album CAUTION. She produced this one with Skrillex and it shows his love for Mariah's Butterfly album which he used to listen to it with his mom. Mariah sampled herself with the "fly" run from her song Butterfly and she sung that run in her whistle register over the belt at the end. She's a genius! Also, she sampled her other song, We Belong Together, by using the piano melody!
