Did he say the black Backstreet Boys!!!!???? Uhm no. Cringe!!! 🙄🙄🙄😳😳 the side eye I just gave almost gave me a migraine. The BSB can all sing, but them being a white B2M would be more accurate. Still wrong but more accurate. All of these groups used the blueprint of New Edition….and B2M were discovered by New Edition and their name is a New Edition song.

Mariah Carey actually wrote most of this song. She came to Boyz II Men with a half made song because she had lost a dear friend to her from AIDS and Boyz II men had an idea of a song because they had lost I think it was their manager and turns out that they had a very similar idea so Mariah finished the chorus, they worked together in the bridge. They share credits but I do believe Boyz II men is considered the ft artist (unsure tho) this song debuted at #1, the second Mariah Carey song to accomplish this feat and Mariah was the first artist in history to have multiple #1 debuts. The song stayed atop the Billboard Chart for 16 weeks and held the record for 23 years. This song was declared song of the decade by Billboard and it was Mariah's first song of the decade (in the 00s she achieved Song of the Decade with We belong together and is up to this day the only artist with more than one Song of the decade) People could not believe that a song like this one, arguably one of the most popular songs ever, with some of the best vocalists in mainstream music, a song with a message of hope to get people through the terrible loss of a loved one and did not receive a Grammy 😓😓😓 shameful for the Recording Academy. This song is part of the Billboard Hot 100 songs of all time.

Not of all time, but living? I’ll go with that. I still say no female artist blows me away with her voice like Whitney Houston. But there are a number of female soul singers who are close to Mariah. She’s amazing though. With Whitney it felt effortless. Like she was never showing off. With Mariah, occasionally I feel like she’s doing crazy runs for no reason that lead nowhere, but here she’s fantastic. With Whitney, the vocals told a story. Both incredibly talented, but Whitney was on another level. It’s too bad she got into the white stuff. That Bodyguard album alone is full of bangers.

This song was played so often when I was in high school that hearing it started to make me feel sick to my stomach. But after all these years, it's a lovely song again. I can't think of any artist other than Mariah Carey whose singular vocal presence could be an equal match with those of four other extraordinarily talented vocalists. The song is about people they all know who had died from AIDS.

Mariah doesn't represent R&B. So many R&B Artist is underrated, you have to be a true R&B fan to know that.
@Raven__xoco2 жыл бұрын
@@tottryship5608 I have seen your ignorance all over this comment section when it comes to the praise of Mariah as an artist. I can accurately attribute that to your pure cluelessness and also whatever personal bias that you may have. Anyone who states that Mariah does not represent RnB must be braindead, biased or both. I will state this again..personal opinion does not equal fact and that is something that should have been taught to you as a child but it was clearly not. As an RnB fan..a huge fan and someone with musical knowledge, let me break it down to you since you clearly do not know what you are talking about. Mariah's first two albums..her Debut and Emotions, are undoubtedly and clearly RnB albums that feature connected forms of musical influences such as Gospel and Soul. Songs like Vision Of Love, went # 1 on The Rnb Charts first before ever hitting number one on any other musical chart. That would mean that Mariah was recognized as RnB and her song was recognized by the RnB charts first before all else. That was her first acclaim as an artist. Songs like "Can't Let Go" sampled Keith Sweat's Make It Last Forever and is again, clealry an RnB song. The song peaked at # 2 on The RnB charts. "Emotions" peaked at # 1 on the RnB charts and is heavy in New Jack Swing inspiration as well as classic Mariah's soul and Gospel influences. "Make It Happen" directly lifts inspiration from an Alicia Myers(Rnb Singer) track and again..harps on the classic love that Mariah has for Soul and Gospel. I mention Soul and Gospel because RnB is directly connected to these other forms of music and there is a lot of common ground. "If It's Over" is one of the most beautiful soulful examples of Mariah as an artist and someone who was inspired by the likes of Aretha and The Clark Sisters for example. "Someday" is through and through a New Jack Swing song and New Jack Swing is one of the most unique sub-genres of RnB music. You can hear some of the remixes like "New Jack Dub Version" and "New Jack Bonus Beats". Mariah was always clear with her musical direction and her influences. She was recognized as an artist by The RnB Charts first and for good reason..she was nominated in RnB categories since the start of her career by award shows like The Soul Train Awards. Artists like Mary J Blige credit Mariah and her music as inspirations and Mary used to actually sing Mariah's music for auditions etc. Music critics heavily criticized Mariah for her "heavy" sound which we all know is code for for ignorance. They called her Debut and Emotions albums "Too Gospel" and too soulful. They wanted her to go a lighter route which would result in more "crossover" appealing records. Mariah's label decided that they would make a lighter album which is where Music Box comes into the picture. Even with that lighter sound, Mariah never swayed from her RnB roots and went RnB Contemporary. The entire album is RnB contemporary with music that you would imagine from Babyface who she collaborated with on parts of the album. You get songs on that album like Daydream which is light in comparison to Mariah's other music but it sampled Ain't No Half Steppin by Big Daddy Kane. While that song was created with use of a sample as well, Dreamlover sampled BD Kane's melody. I mention Hip Hop because Mariah's inspirations and love for Hip Hop was on display as early as her debut album with her rapping on Prisoner. You can also see it in Dreamlover with the Big Daddy Kane acknowledgement and that section of the song where Mariah wanted a rapper featured but her label was against the idea. I wanted to touch on this as well briefly. Also when it comes to Mariah and Music Box..do we say that Babyface is not RnB due to a lot of his music being RnB contemporary? No so even that contemporary RnB album should not be criticized for it's lighter texture. Your personal ignorance is Just... personal. As a music lover and historian, your comment was easy to debunk as bias. I don't even have to mention Mariah's other albums because they all illustrate the various sounds of RnB throughout the 90s and 2000s. You do not know much about RnB like you seem to think. Not only does Mariah's music speak for itself..she is the Highest selling woman in music history, was named Artist of the Millennium which is an achievement only shared by Michael Jackson, was the highest selling artist(male of female) of the 90s, was honored with The Soul Train Legend Award, Artist of the Decade Award, was at the time the only woman to ever receive The World Diamond Award for her global musical achievement. She is in the Songwriting Hall of Fame.. She was named as Billboard's greatest female artist in history..she also has the greatest RnB song on the top 600 list in We Belong Together while also being the highest-rated female song in Billboard history. TEOM is not only one of the Greatest RnB albums of all time, it is one of the highest-selling ever while being the best RnB album post-2000. That is not just personal opinion but critically acclaimed and by public sales, the world agrees. The album spawned Mariah's second song of the decade in We Belong Together. Mariah's first song of the decade is One Sweet day. Mariah has spent the most time on Billboard than any artist in history. She has a diamond single and two diamond albums in Daydream and Music Box. She will soon have 4 diamond albums in all when her former label updates her certifications. Her Debut and Merry Christmas are Diamond eligible right now and TEOM is too or close to it. Her # 1's album is close as well. That means that in the coming years, Mariah will have over 5 or more diamond albums in all by the time her certifications update. Mariah's impact in RnB, Hip Hop, and music, in general, will always be documented and celebrated. Let me mention Hip Hop too right quick. You can hear her inspiration whenever you turn on the radio. These artists who feature hip hop artists on their tracks are not replicating Mary or any other artist..they are trying to duplicate the magic of Mariah and her Hip Hop features. So why Mariah may not have been the first huge mainstream RnB female artist to feature a Hip Hop artist in their music, her popularity..sheer magnitude of her artistry, and the way she featured hip hop artists, changed music forever. That is why she is credited with this fact. Q tip has acknowledged it..Left Eye and even Mary said that Mariah pushed "our" music forward. Mariah as a biracial/black artist has always connected herself to black music. She is well respected by those who know, enjoy, and love music. I suggest you educate yourself.

@@Raven__xoco And I can see you're biased as a fanatic. I remember growing up in the early 90's listing to Mariah and now in my mid 30's I realize she is simply overrated. I appreciate the underrated R&B artist that doesn't get the achievement. And personal, I believe it's because of their background. The bias is not me, but the music industry. Educate yourself, then maybe you will understand where I'm coming from.

They changed the song “End of the Road” after he was gone from the group. Instead of his solo Wanya now just repeats “Lonely” in a deep voice during that part.

Late 80's and into the late 90's was flooded with male boy bands. Mint Condition, The Deele, Hi Five, Jodeci, Silk, Ready For The World, It really all started with New Edition you should check them out. I recommend If It Isn't Love, Can You Stand The Rain, Candy Girl, Mr Telephone Man, and I'm Still in Love With You.

I think you would absolutely enjoy "That's What Friends Are For" a collaboration with Elton John, Stevie Wonder, Dionne Warwick and Gladys Knight. It's early 80s but you don't get a better collaboration of soul than when you put those 4 together...and the lyrics...ugh my heart!!

One of Boys II Men's first big hits and personal faroits of mine is motownphilly. It gives a good run down of there origin story. And just because you're new to the whole r&b scene I'll let the comment regarding backstreet Boys slide.... that was like saying Michael Jackson is like a black Justin Timberlake. Both can sing but there's no comparing there talent and mark on the industry.

check out Underneath The Stars by mariah carey! it's very soft and sweet, so it has less of the crazy vocal runs lol. it's also one of her fav songs that she's written! definitely mariah at her peak and her most authentic
