Imagine, 30 years have passed yet no one is still on the same caliber as Mariah during her debut and prime. At age 19-20 she wrote and co produced her debut album which earned her two grammys and consecutive number 1 hits. And everything goes from there. This is the era of no streaming and stans. The general public would really need to like your music and buy them so you can get those figures. It’s amazing how Mariah literally became the blueprint of today’s artists. Such a legend

@Limeyboy73 I think it's the other way around tho. Tommy knew she would become a very big star, not Mariah herself. In fact she mentioned it on her memoir saying she didn't know she was that famous when she saw fans and paparazzis outside because she was mostly kept inside the house by Tommy. And just a correction, she writes her own music :)
@somespecies3 жыл бұрын
@Limeyboy73 umm yeah just ignore the fact that she makes her own music, not her label company.
@somespecies3 жыл бұрын
@Limeyboy73 oh I am no means denying Tommy helped her career. I know when to give credit when it's due. Even Mariah after their divorce still gave credit to Tommy for helping her. I am just pointing out that it's her mainly who's incharge of her music and not like she's "getting the first puck of the best songs the label has to offer" as you said, cause those are two different things Before she got signed to Tommy's company, she already have this demo tape which was the reason she's discovered on the first place, four songs from that landed on her debut album, the rest are written/co-written. Even after Mariah's falling apart from Tommy and his label, Mariah still made hits, especially her Emancipation album which was commercially and critically acclaimed. So it's just safe to say that she doesn't need to rely on those best of writers from Tommy, cause she's doing it herself Again I am not denying Tommy's impact on Mariah's career. In fact I do feel that Tommy did a good job selling Mariah to the public. But all the label and Tommy did was sell her, but the musicality itself, although still influenced by Tommy's decisions, is coming from Mariah. I just want to give credit where it is really due :)
@somespecies3 жыл бұрын
@Limeyboy73 and I do agree with your last reply that Tommy really made sure to have her the best team, and that he invested a lot on her. It's just your previous replies seem to have different argument

I wouldn't say "over the top" but more like 'not holding back'. I mean after all that she's been through (having a controlling and abusive husband, career being sabotaged, jealous and greedy family, etc.) she's just enjoying her earned freedom and the status that she has worked hard for. Plus if you'd watch interviews of other celebs/non-celebs that she has met, they'd say she's a down-to-earth, genuine person. Her diva act is just her making fun of herself.
