As Katie Hopkins said, "offense is not taken, it is given". The blatant truth. However, people who have been indoctrinated into their left-wing ideologue just cannot see logic, facts and truisms from hyper-emotional falsehoods. As KGB agent Yuri Bezmenov said, a demoralised group of people cannot see right from wrong, even if it is directly in front of your face. White guilt lefty's are demoralised. People should NOT be stopped from speaking because people are overly sensitive. The conformists who are anti-freedom of speech, are totalitarian; love diversity of ethnicity, but hate diversity of opinion. Bottom line: people on the left don't want free speech, because they are scared of people leaving their conformist thought-bubble, and know it is a real possibility on a free-speech platform. Thoughtcrime is now a thing. Orwellian.

I think she was just nervous and intimidated by Katie Hopkins and the crowd. There's nothing wrong in writing things down if you feel you won't be able to remember everything. Her speech was basically factual and focused on the fact that some of the most powerful platforming people in history have made speeches which have then resulted in the destruction of mankind. Some of the most powerful political speakers throughout history have come out with some very very negative things. Most political speakers fuel hatred and prejudice (Trump) and we need to becareful of this. If we all said what was in our minds the entire planet would be at war with each other.
@LOOKINVERTED
@LOOKINVERTED 4 жыл бұрын
@@Dion_Mustard I agree with all of what you say but you failed to point out the most important caveat. Those powerful words that are so dangerous only become such when they're brought into action and there aren't opposing views to counter those arguments - the value of free speech (absolute... because we don't know what words are going to have that impact in the future) ...is our vehicle to do just that and utilise debate with "other" ideas. Hitler silenced his opposition, literally which was one of the main reasons as to why he succeeded with his abhorrent agenda. If we start to do the same - no matter how well-intentioned our de-platforming of who "offends" we risk the same happening again.
@LOOKINVERTED
@LOOKINVERTED 4 жыл бұрын
@@Dion_Mustard ...oh, and with respect - the Trump phenomenon, who is it, exactly, who's getting de-platformed during this 'tyrant's' tenure? Not your words but some describe him as such, but it's not the left getting censored, it's mainly conservatives and his supporters. Surely you're not of the opinion that it's ok in this case? If it were his opposition that were getting censored then I'd say you have a serious point and we should worry but it's the opposite - so I'm not sure of the mental gymnastics those on the left have to go through who think this is ok!

How can these people not understand that the people in charge determine the freedom of words. While Hitler may have been great at speeches, the idea that people can rise up and speak against this is of the utmost importance. It shows how little she understands that she sat down without taking questions.

When your speech sounds like it was specifically written to PROVE your opponents point.... who should be the arbiter of what is positive or negative speech?? Who gets bestowed with that kind of authority?? The only people afraid of words, are the people who want to suppress YOURS. And those are the people to fear.

Yeah, unfortunately the world isn't sunshine and rainbows. They think that as long as they keep holding hands, sing kumbaya together and make meaningless love-heart symbols, the world will eventually rid itself of any "hate" and we'll all live happily ever after. Reality doesn't quite work like that. It's just utopian make-believe nonsense that belongs in a fairytale book.

Hitler. One cannot separate the rise of Hitler from the conditions in which he rose. The Weimar Republic was economically crippled by the Treaty of Versailles (a lesson the Allies learned from when it came time to forge peace with the Axis countries a couple of decades later, mind you). Communism rose in popularity, and in 1919 a violent communist uprising seized control in cities across the country and took full control of Bavaria. The government responded by essentially declaring martial law and arming former soldiers, a voluntary force called the Freikorps, to take back governmental control of the country. This did not please the communists, who remained a thorn in the government's side. In 1920, both right and left was fed up with the government. People were angry that the government had signed a treaty that effectively made it impossible to adequately feed more than 20% of the country. Communists continued to act out, rioting, destroying property and assaulting people indiscriminately, but the government had no money left to pay the Freikorps and disbanded them. A nationalist leader named Wolfgang Kapp won the Freikorps over to his side and in 1920 they attempted a takeover of Berlin. What few soldiers remained in the military refused to fire on their former brothers in arms, but workers in Berlin went on strike and refused to cooperate with them, and the attempt failed. From there, years of street warfare ensued between the communists and the proto-fascist right wingers (made up largely of ex military). Ordinary Germans began to tire of the violence and vandalism, and in particular, they were getting tired of the indiscriminate nature of it from the communist side. While the fascists mostly confined their aggression to political targets (including a number of assassinations of government officials and meeting the communist mobs with violence), the communists could not abide a "neutral party". If you were not with them, you were against them, and therefore a valid target. If you had any wealth whatsoever, the mobs would confiscate it for redistribution, bourgeoise scum. Had there been such a thing as a milkshake in the economically crippled republic, the milkshakes would have been flying. As it was, they had to settle on bricks. Politically unaffiliated citizens saw their neighborhoods burned and looted, their shops destroyed, their homes vandalized and their loved ones beaten and even killed by the communists, and the fascists as the only people capable of, and willing to, step in and protect them. The government, given its financial situation, certainly wasn't doing a great job of it. When forced to choose between the communists who wanted to confiscate or destroy what little they owned and the fascists who were willing to put their lives on the line to protect it, is it any wonder WHY the average German citizen saw fascism as the lesser of two evils? Oh, and just in case anyone was wondering. The Weimar Republic (1918-1933) had a number of criminal statutes dealing with hate crime and hate speech, including anti-semitic expression. None of that stopped the nazis from rising to power.

The intimidation of the Nazis pushed Germany into a state of submission which caused the general population to submit and then become overrun by the intimidation. The conditions of the country at the time played a major role. Germany was still a very young nation at that time.

You're partially right. I don't like communists, to get that out of the way first. Hitlers propaganda was aimed at communists. He hated them with a passion. But he also knew some people were enamoured by socialist ideas, that's why he named his party national socialism. The German people didn't choose Hitler, he forced himself upon them. That's one of the staples of fascism, gaining power without being elected. So no, the people didn't think that facism was the lesser of two evils. Firstly, they didn't have a fully formed vision of what facism is or where it might lead. Secondly, what they did know about communism was heavily inspired by Hitlers propaganda. And thirdly, they did not choose Hitler, Hitler took power by way of a coup.

Hitler didn’t just gain power through his speeches, that is a massive over simplification. The violent acts/murders to repress other politicians and groups really help. Stumbled back onto this debate 3 years later. Words do have power and if you are opposed to someones 'words' then you should have the abilty to stand up against them and argue for what you believe to be true and just. Simply telling them to 'shut up' (ie: No platforming) isnt winning an argument and getting to the truth, it's just another form of violence. I wonder what outcry would be heard if those on the right of the gallery 'no platformed' those on the left?

One might almost feel sorry for this young woman, clearly well out of her intellectual league, clearly unable to present any sort of reasonable or indeed cogent argument and to top it all off her appalling attempt at sardonic humour, 2:28 asserting that Hitler's way with words bore a similarity to someone here (presumably an opposition speaker). Frankly, nothing more need be said regarding the latter remarks, the audiences response said it all. Not satisfied with embarrassing herself, and doubtless many, if not all of those in attendance, went on to demonstrate her double standards 5:50 presumably a poorly executed ploy to attack the credibility of Katie Hopkins. In this instance Ms. Idrissi quoted a passage from a Turkish book, doubtless itself having been translated from Turkish to English emphatically praising its depth of meaning and relevance. However it must be highlighted how very shortly after beginning her speech, she very quickly and rather thoughtlessly criticised Ms. Hopkins for doing precisely the same thing with a piece of text from the Koran, bearing in mind as Ms. Idrissi rashly pointed out, it too was a translation. The dichotomy being what's acceptable for her argument, is clearly unacceptable as a means of defence in the hands of the opposition ie. Katie Hopkins. In her opening remarks Ms. Idrissi stated this was her first time, one can only hope it's also her last.
