Nick Reichwein my friend said she was trash and she sounds horrible, they said that she’s not even close to the best singer alive. They’re not my friends anymore I want to kill them. Mariah is arguably the best female singer ever and most successfull too. People these days don’t know what singing really is. Yes, I will give it to Whitney that she is the queen of vibrato, resonance, and power but except from that Mariah wins everything. Technically her vocals are untouchable and that’s why she’s the best still up to this day. (This is coming from a die hard Mariah Carrey Stan btw)

People who desperately try to sing this song always fail to realize that this song is not about Mariah showing she can sing so high, she already did that on her first album. This is song is about Mariah showing the world what she can do with her immense range scaling up and down her vocal register with such agility and precision over and over. She will descend from the lowest of the lows and then in an instant soar thru stratospheric heights. Her voice is absolutely out of this world. The Greatest vocalist to have ever walked this planet.

Growing up as a marginalized minority, Mariah faced unrelenting racism and oppression. Some would argue she still does, since critics claim she "only has a studio voice." Which is exactly why she did MTV unplugged. To have to prove them wrong. Critics didn't say that about Melissa Ethridge or Courtney Love. Your comment about "curl hair era" is getting close to a typical demeaning comment about African American women's hair. It's a very sensitive topic, and rightly so.

When Mariah came back with her second studio album Emotions, the critics felt it lacked the feeling and meaning that her debut album had. On top of that, because she limited herself to television and award show appearances, people and critics felt that she couldn’t sing as brilliant live and felt that her voice especially her whistle register was gimmick made to sell albums. So she and her label booked this MTV unplugged to show the word that she could actually sing and she showed tf out in deed.

The fact that there are people who don’t see Mariah as one of the greatest vocalists to grace this earth, clownery. She had a five octave range not to mention the best whistle register of all time, and could sing as low as the second octave. She’s one of the best because she didn’t just sing soaring high notes and didn’t only sing low notes, she could specialize in every facet of her voice, whether high or low, all starting at 20 years old being compared to the likes of Whitney and Celine. A true icon

Yeah, my thoughts exactly, Mariah was only compared to Whitney, as Celine despite starting her English album the same year as Mariah’s debut didnt really breakthrough until the Beauty and the Beast soundtrack in 1993. Celine started to be included in the Big 3 (before Celine, it was Whitney, Mariah, and Madonna) as far as I know is in 2002, when Randy Jackson included her with Whitney and Mariah as the Big 3 meaning top selling female SINGERS who have sold an upwards of 100 million records worldwide, for some reason Simon got the credit for the vocal trinity when in fact it was Randy that initially grouped all 3.

“Emotions” is dubbed ‘Vocal suicide’ by many music critics around the world, being Carey’s most vocally demanding and hardest song to sing out of her extensive catalogue. The track showcases 4.8 octaves out of her impressive 5.2 which already proves not many singers can pull this song off considering the huge range needed to sing it. It’s become a standard for Carey to perform this throughout her tours and live appearances, critics believe it defined Carey as an artist as it really shows off the vocal power only she has been known to have. Many singers have attempted to cover Carey’s iconic classic but it’s universally agreed the song should only be sung by Mariah Carey.

This is the Mariah I fell in love with. And I think most others too. The hair, the innocence and that voice...oh lord, that voice. The 90s Mariah was on FIRE! No one and I mean no one comes even close to her in that decade. Not even Whitney, with all due respect, she is a distant 2nd, even though I loved her music and voice a lot. But Mariah was something special and unique. That range, that whistle register.....is like she is communicating with the dolphins. 90s Mariah was a force of nature like nothing else, man.

The critics were so mad after this. Before this concert they kept calling her a studio singer, and that she couldn't sing live like she does on the album. They couldn't fathom that this beautiful young woman could be the one behind these songs and this voice. Then Mariah does Unplugged and sings these damn near impossible songs live even better than they sounded on the records. You just know they were stewing in that anger 🤣🤣 Then the petty bastards decided to block her from winning anymore Grammys for the rest of the decade. But she really won in the end cause the people bought and loved her music enough to make her one of the most successful artists in history. This show was straight up Queen shit 👸🏽 👏

Mariah "Songbird Supreme" Carey DOMINATED the 90s decade and only have 2 Grammy from then to show for it. They robbed her on several occasions. She "returned" in 2005 (went on to slay for the rest on the 2010s) and they still robbed her. The Scammys are too busy rewarding mediocre talents OR up a certain group of people's a$$. The Beyonces, Kanyes, Jayzs...it's like they must reward these people or there will be consequences 😒 Crazy thing is Mariah is still making magic. Her Caution album was A1! But she's still criminally underrated..more so now because of ageism and the landscape of music now. Never seen such a mega star still be so underappreciated/underrated in their career.

And honestly, it's kinda sad if people just wanna believe/think that Mariah Carey will always the one and only really talented singer. We need more people with talents like her, or who knows, *maybe* someone will be even better. We shouldn't be hating that person or comparing her with Mariah if she exists in the future, we should be grateful that we are able to continue listening to these people with really great voices that we don't even have.
