I love to think that someone who doesn't speak English would hear this and have no idea about the irony and think it's just a regular pop song.
@MeuleDomino8 жыл бұрын
+Naomi Shizuko I don't know what's ironic. He's just singing what the music does, but I don't know why dat's ironic :P

+Naomi Shizuko It's funny, because that's pretty much what Gagnam Style is. It's a satire, but in the US we just like how it sounds and don't know much about the content.

People are complaining saying that this is not a well made lyric video but the song is extremely satirical so I thought the crappy effects kind of matches the whole point of the song

I’ve seen this band live multiple times, and once when they performed this song, instead of saying his own name Joshua Ramsay at the end of the song he said Jason Derulo instead and then went “because only assholes say their own names in their songs” and the whole crowd lost it, easily one of the funniest things I’ve ever seen

the ironic thing is this song has become something of a period piece; a lot of the tropes he sings about here are specific to that era of pop music (early 2010s, with maybe some late 2000s aspects) & now almost a decade has passed since then so a lot of those tropes that were typical back then aren’t as common in the current era of pop anymore bc the genre has already evolved so much since this song was released. so even if it was initially meant to be satirical (& still is), all it does now is make me feel nostalgic for the era i grew up in (& tbh now this has the same energy as the “generic songs” from bojack, i mean that as a compliment)

How can so many people be missing the the irony? The music video and the lyrics video are both the epitome of irony and parody. The song literally throws shade at pop music, which is ironic because Pop 101 is a pop song... the music video also uses tons of stereotypes and standard pop video additives. The whole point is to be sassy and ironic towards pop music. I think it's pretty awesome.

First time you listen to the song, particularly if you do so while watching the dumb video they made for it, you'd think "Wow, they sold out". And then you give it another whirl, this time paying attention to the lyrics and then you realize that it's a HUGE parody of the Pop genre. This song is a masterpiece.

im tired of ppl saying "this is not marianas trench music!!1!! i've lost my respect for them" like shut up and sit the fuck down because i need to tell you something. first of all this. is. a. parody. of course this is not "marianas trench music" because this song is practically just making fun of the popular music these days. second of all, no the rest of the album will not sound like this, i've heard many clips from the album and it sounds fantastic. mike said that one of the songs are his all time favourite. also josh and anami did not dance with the naked girls in the video they were photoshopped in later. yes i know their songs do not sound the same as the fix me album anymore but um like do you want josh to be depressed again?! also they care so much for their fans and they are truly the kindest and funniest you will ever meet. so please stfu and think again before you say anything

Lyrics: Pop music 101 Some simple instructions, for a good first impression Now lets start with verse one A minor chord, tensions grow Fade in the bass like so Now with momentum go Stop And bring the beat back It's called four on the floor A beat you can't ignore I bring sexy back once more, they love that for sho The chords are 1-4-6-4 Now I'm talking familiar Harmony in thirds not fourths We'll take you into the pre-Real quick now don't you bore us Hurry up and get to the Dumbed down, they won't ignore us Get to the floor And here's the words you should know Like "DJ never let me go" Or "shots and then we'll lose control" Or "baby, baby, baby, baby, baby" How 'bout one more last word like: "Hey girl we've only got tonight" Some things just go together like Higher, desire, and fire Higher, desire, and fire Guitar and strings like these To sound like Black Eyed Peas This one's a filtered swing This one's a matching key Hipster music on cassette But you probably don't know that yet 8-0-8's Hell yeah Heartfelt pop anthems From Mumford and his sons Gang vocals here we come Thinkin' "I will always wait" Real quick now don't you bore us Hurry up and get to the Dumbed down, they won't ignore us Can't slow down Get 'em to the Whoa, and here's the words you should know Like "DJ never let me go" Or "shots and then we'll lose control" Or "baby, baby, baby, baby, baby" How 'bout one more last word like: "Hey girl we've only got tonight" Some things just go together like: Higher, desire, and fire Higher, desire, and fire (I can pitch shift my voice if I want I can pitch shift my voice if I want I can pitch shift my voice if I want I can make my voice low) The bridge is the part when you bring in a rapper friend You simplify, and slow the beat Abbreviate "feature" to "feat" Quick now, fill in the gap Right up and down, eliminate that which You really would rap and give 'em a classic like G-G-G-Get to the floor (CASH MONEY) And here's the words you should know Like "DJ never let me go" Or "shots and then we'll lose control" Or "baby, baby, baby, baby, baby" How 'bout one more last word like: "Hey girl we've only got tonight" Some things just go together like: Higher, desire, and fire Higher, desire, and fire Boots n cats n' Boots n cats n' (Joshua Ramsay) Boots n' cats n' Boots n' cats n' Boots n' cats And boots

I love how even the lyric video is intentionally lazy and out of sync at some parts

djlowtek Not lazy exactly, more like intentionally using the text to further communicate the stereotype. As for when it's out of sync, check out 0:55 'Get to the floor' as each word comes in individually, but then additional sections, in the same font style, come in in bunches instead. I think that's what Make Acid meant by 'out of sync'

djlowtek well maybe lazy wasn't the word but if you look at the transitions you can notice those are really basic a lot of times there's not transition at all also there's parts that are out of sync so it's intentionally flawed to show how generic and messy this kind of videos can get
