I feel like the productivity space has become a parody of itself. There is always a new "productivity system" or something new to optimize, because the ones from last week weren't perfect after all. It is one thing to use better tools for the job, and another to make searching for tools an entirely new job in the search for perfection, that logically can't even exist.

However we are 7 billion so an established system can’t be a « one size fits all » and that’s why there are productivity app « gurus » so you quickly see what works best for you. And I think you can seek for improvement without seeking for perfection. As you evolve a person so does your duties and responsibilities hence your current « productivity system » might need some change as well

Over the last few years, I have watched several KZbin videos and read several articles on “productivity” systems. They are all well-conceived and valuable to users. Sometimes, they are called “project management” or “task management” systems. Regardless, their focus is on “tasks/activities”. They can cause users to become “masters of the minutia”. This is in contrast to a person’s “objectives”. Sometimes the word “goals” or the term “end results” is used to mean the same thing as the word “objectives”. Regardless of the word/term used, I am talking about a condition, a situation, or a state of affairs that a person wants later in his/her life. That may be wanted just a couple months from now or many years. “Tasks/Activities” are merely the “means to the ends”. It is your “objectives” (end results) that are far more important than “tasks/activities”. Consequently, I highly recommend that people who develop “productivity” systems incorporate the development of “objectives” into the design of their systems and encourage users to start by defining their “objectives”. And therefore, each person should spend a fair amount time defining his/her “objectives”, both short term ones, preferably medium terms, and maybe even long term ones. Add them to whatever “productivity” system you use. It is important to write them down, because, over time, you will modify / refine your “objectives” and it will be important that you explicitly acknowledge those changes and modify your “tasks/activities”, accordingly. To help with defining your “objectives”, I’ve created a list of “categories” of objectives to get your thinking started. I believe it to be a comprehensive list. Here it is. * Personal / Professional Relationship * Physical / Health Condition * Mental / Intellectual Condition * Emotional / Psychological Condition * Spiritual Condition * Wealth / Financial Condition * Security / Safety Condition * Fame / Reputation * Power / Influence * Skill / Capability * Possession / Property (Things you have / own) * Location / Place (Where you primarily reside) Again, note. These are “categories” of “objectives”, not “objectives” in and of themselves. Finally, the “tasks/activities” in whatever productivity system you use need to be in support of and linked to one or more of your “objectives”. If some “task/activity” isn’t, you need to ask yourself, “why am I doing this?” - - - In some productivity systems, it is easy to create the links by adding tags to your “tasks/activities”.

The eizenhaur matrix exists exactly not to be 'master of minutia'. You can find more about this in "7 habits of high efective people" by R Covi. In short, the most important tasks are those that are important and not urgent (quadrant 2). This is your highest goal\motivation\value\mission. The urgent and important (quandrant 1) are actually tasks that you should avoid at any cost, because this is what takes your focus from you, and makes you mindless task completer.

A lot of people have been asking me why I'm recommending TickTick over Akiflow. The short answer is: it depends on the user but OVERALL, TickTick is a clear winner when you look at pricing. Akiflow is fantastic (and I'll be switching to Akiflow once they support an iOS app) but it's very geared towards people with multiple teams and multiple areas of life they need to manage (that's why Akiflow's main trait is importing data from other productivity apps like Gmail, Slack, Notion, Asana, Trello, etc.). It's not a very common type of workflow and the app is expensive - something that makes sense for me, as a business owner and someone who's simultaneously working a 9 to 5, but for many of you who are students, that subscription probably won't pay off.

Todoist doesn’t have a calendar feature (at least it didn’t when I used it in the past!) I find Akiflow really glitchy (I reviewed it last month). Never really enjoyed Sunsama either. Independently of that, this is the app that’s working well for me. It doesn’t mean it will work well for everyone ☺️

@@mariana-vieira Ah, you have dropped google calendar for Tick Tick, I thought you were using them side by side. Todoist integrates with Gcal I think. Always interesting looking at these tools.

For me, the lack of natural language for the input in Morgen is the barrier. Todoist really wins in terms of easy task creation.

@@KarenLoTucker NLP in the command bar does enough for me. Still got some work to do to catch up to todoist, but Morgen works with todoist. Everyone has their prefernce of course.

Thank you so much for this video... I used TickTick years ago and abandoned it for some reason but after seeing this video, I'm back to using it. I'm realizing how great this app is... I think the calendar feature is a game-changer. I don't think I had that feature before because I didn't have the premium. Lately, I have been putting this emoji ->✅ in the title of every calendar event task that I completed in Google Calendar (for motivation) . I didn't want to use Google Tasks because the user interface annoyed me. TickTick is so much more efficient as a calendar and task combo app!

Does anyone know of an app that allows you to edit text in the same way notion does (aka holding and dragging a block of text around)? That is the only feature that I really care about (it making writing on a phone a lot easier ) at it seems to be really hard to search for.
