Mid 60s. What an splendid era in pop history. While male pop bands such as Beatles, Rolling Stones etc were dominating the music scene, Ms Faithfull along withh a bevy of British female singers were hitting the 'top of the pops' with their gorgeous voices n styles. Remember Petula Clark, Cilla Black, Sandie Shaw, Lulu, Anita Harris? Not forgetting supermodel Twiggy influencing teenage girls with mini skirts n mod fashion all over the world. What a terrific time for youths including me in SEAsia. I raise a glass of good cheer to Marianne Faithfull.

The lyrics are such thought provoking poetry. The music transcendent. Her voice is beautiful, haunting and brings it all to life. I'm a man in my late 50's with a train wreck of a life in some ways and I'm tearful listening to this. I wish I could go back to the happiness, safety and innocence of my childhood and start again. No worries or stress, just enjoying playing with my friends. Such good times. Now..... I sit and watch as tears go by........

Marianne recorded this when she was very young. I think it was her first recording aged 17. It was nice but a bit twee. She later rerecorded it for the 1987 album "Strange Weather" when she was 41. This is a song about regret and longing. It's more suitable for a 41 than a 17 year old. Her 41 year version is tops.

I was born in Finland in1949 and bought my first guitar in 1966 and soon also learned my first accords. Marianne Faithful´s song was one of the melodies I started to play along and sing. Oh boy how emotional I became when listening to this beautiful melody! Later in 80´s I even lived 4 years in London but unfortunately never met madame Faithful at any concert nor anywhere else.. I still would like to meet her because her music has affected me very much. At least through this message I want to send my best and dearest greetings to Marianne Faithful! Thankyou for your music!

Keith and Mick gave this song to Marriane. And She made it hers. However, I do like Micks version as well. I don't believe Mick set out to out do Marrianes version . It was a very sad song. A woman growing older was either unable to have children or hadn't found a partner with which to have children. She has money and a privileged life but is denied some things that even the very poor can take for granted. Although sweetly sung it is a lament. Something akin to "Tar and Cement".

Beautiful the song and the lady too. She was very underrated back in the 60's, the very best musical era of all time. I look at the then Marrian Faithful and see pure devine gorgeousness!!! There I have said it.

My dreams were full of this song last night, and it's been with me all day. When I pass and face my eternal rest, I want it to be 1970 to 1975, but to rest my soul as a 25 year old.

Hey man I caught up with my high school "flame" from the sixties in 2017 after 50+ years. That was a blast from the past for both of us man and we re-connected as friends only and its great. That's two i remain loving from the sixties. Marianne Faithful plus one other girl... The sixties when life just rolled by sweetly unless caught up in politics and "that stupid war!" Just saying man and memories from the heart. Might sound corny but not to me. Peace.

Just lovely and the background pictures of the sixties were spot on. I am old now but see no reason not to play all the fab songs of the 60s and 70s. Mobile in pocket, earplugs in and off I go listening to music that should never be forgotten and no apologies for preferring it to most of today’s music. Get well soon Marianne. Best wishes

I was born a few months before this song came out -- and I wonder how many times my mother played it (maybe not so much for me but herself) -- and this is one of the few songs that I can listen to on repeat and never get tired of listening to it -- it seems to speak to me on a spiritual level or something...
