That part about making all campaigns public-funded via the Constitution got me. This *_needs_* to happen regardless of who becomes president. I'm _sick_ of large corporations running this country. Give America back to its people.

What i truly love about Trevor is how profound he is willing to make his interviews if his guests are willing to do the same. His interviews are top-notch state of the art. Compare that to cable news media. Or even to other late night shows. They could learn a thing or two here, especially news media who's job this would actually be.

John Harrison having a government that actually cares about whether or not you’re breathing clean air will make your life better. Where do you people come up with this shit? @Mr._Anderpson
@Mr._Anderpson 5 жыл бұрын
@@possiblymaybe6711 Who can argue with that? After all, it would be unfair of me to suggest people all have agency & are responsible for themselves. Instead of striving to improve ourselves, we should demand our government to do it for us. It only makes sense. Congress has a fantastic track record of reflecting the concerns of the American people.
@possiblymaybe6711
@possiblymaybe6711 5 жыл бұрын
John Harrison how am I ALONE going to improve our air???? How am I ALONE going to improve wage theft by corporatists and insurmountable student loan debt for millions of other students ? yeah I work hard I actually like my life a lot nowadays because I’ve taken a lot more initiative in my adulthood to get me to where I am I understand my potential to improve my life, but that’s not all I’m concerned about and I know it could be better if someone were to actually give a shit. I want there to be a world to live in that will survive another 50 years I can’t do that alone. The congress members we’ve been electing have all been corporate pawns with empty promises and I get that you’re disillusioned it makes total sense actually for you to feel this way and that’s what they want. Study read investigate who you vote for always and if you do that and everyone else in this country did that maybe we’d actually have a functional Congress. Until then telling people to give up and just do you isn’t going to get anyone anywhere
@Mr._Anderpson
@Mr._Anderpson 5 жыл бұрын
@@possiblymaybe6711 How do you alone improve the air? Replace your lawn (if you have one) with a varied landscape of trees & plants which support life. Don't buy bananas or avocados or kiwis, the sorts of things which have to travel hundreds to thousands of miles for you to eat when you could just have a locally-grown handful of blueberries. Stop using AC, since most of the power in the electic grid still comes from fossil fuels. Grow your own food, buy from local farms, & compost your garbage instead of sending it to a landfill. When organic materials break down in the absence of oxygen, methane is a byproduct. Stop driving more than is necessary & carpool as much as possible. This also means eliminating the carbon footprint of most vacations. (Sorry, you actually asked a question I can begin to answer, as my academic focus & career are based in environmental remediation.) Yes, people will see these options & decide they simply cannot make those sacrifices. Sadly, many of those same people will expect government agencies to make sweeping changes when they aren't willing to do the same. You improve the wage theft problem by being your own boss, or not supporting corporations whose policies you can't just accept. Chances are, if you're using a smartphone (or anything from Nike), you're already giving your silent assent to child labor or the unthinkable conditions endured by those mining rare earth metals. Politicians know they can get away with hypocrisy because they know most people are the same sort of hypocrite. It isn't my problem to worry about the average wage in the big city, because the average worker/voter in the big city doesn't give a person like me, in Corn Fields, USA a second thought. Student loan debt is likewise an individual responsibility. We shouldn't have to subsidize the poor decision-making abilities of those who decided to major in art history or gender studies. They weren't forced to take a loan. They made a choice & must live with the consequences. Tell ya what. Lose all the sleep you like freaking out if the world will be here in 50 years. Unless you speak fluent Mandarin, Swahili, & Hindi, you could reach every other English speaker & still not change the trajectory of human population growth & consumption of resources. Should you manage to pull off this transformative coup of Congress, get back in touch with me. Very few people enter Congress without becoming part of the corrupt system. Even the much-vaunted AOC dropped her $15 minimum wage & Green New Deal rhetoric in favor of asking for a pay increase. The old saying goes that politicians are like sperm. One in a million turn out to be an actual human being.

Everything she says she wants to do makes sense, and would help literally everyone, in every demographic. Ppl are going to take notice. But they haven’t…..this smear campaign has been so effective. I’m so scared that ppl will never see past it. I try to educate ppl who have been convinced, but I can feel in my heart. Not enough people have had the opportunity to learn about her. @Chooey Sooares I would not argue against the fact that his argument that she is a bad person is false. I also agree with the fact that anything can be taken out of context. At the same time, the fact that she is/was an anti-vaxxer is legitimately harmful to public health. Her candidacy gives those who perpetuate the lie that vaccines cause autism a person to rally behind. Even a man like Donald Trump had condemned anti-vaxxers. If even a man of that low IQ says that anti-vaxxers are bad, Marianne Williamson is by far the least competant candidate running for any mainstream US political party.

Big Teddy Bear Millions of Black people own guns already and you don’t see them taking to the streets to “Kill Whitey”. Yet you literally insinuated that Black people exercising their Constitutional right to own an “arsenal” (2nd Amendment) is something to be contained because of how you “imagine” them. I guess DL Hughley was right when he said the worst place for a Black person to live is in the imagination of a White person. All that fear and imagination was the driving force behind segregation and Jim Crow.

At 14:57 she makes subtle correction. She started by saying the first "slaves" were brought over but then corrected and said "enslaved" people. Referring to people as slaves reduces them to that lowly position and sounds as if they inherently are that. Saying Europeans "brought slaves over" sounds commodified, as if they were picking up something from Walmart. Saying "enslaved" denotes a position that was forced onto people but reminds you that the 'enslaved' are human first.

A very astute observation. Thanks. I hope the black community picks up on this and alters the way they discuss it themselves. Many seem to use "slave" and "slavery" in ways more designed to elicit ongoing hate for whites instead of love for themselves. Some of that is intentional. Some is just poor communication. I do not agree with her about "reparations" though. The time for that was over 150 years ago. No one alive was a slave, or a slaveowner. We need to fix what and where we are *now* and I don't believe payouts will remedy a damned thing. Trump has shown us just how racist we still are. Reparations would just further exacerbate that divide, in all sorts of ways I shouldn't need to go into here... I know my (white) ancestry back to 1632 here in America. Not a single slave was ever owned by any of my ancestors. The idea of reparations in a modern sense means the guilty have to compensate their victims. And let's not forget that most slaves were rounded up by fellow Africans and sold to the ships that came by to fill up. Should blacks pay themselves reparations? Should I? That's how taxes would work here. Again, it's a very flawed concept at the very least...

Andrew has the intelligence and technological foresight to move us forward! Elizabeth has the economic grip and scholarly wisdom to traverse our bureaucratic battles! Bernie has the conviction and bravery to fight for the American people since day 1 even when no one else stood with him! Marianne has the fiery heart and soul of america, and its spirit to heal its historic and moral ills! All great candidates. We were robbed by the establishment!

Aïcha Janeiro - it excites me to read your comment because I think this will be her path to victory: someone comes across her because they are a fan of Trevor Noah (or Colbert or Hot97 or whoever) and realizes how impressive she is. In case you didn't know, she has lots of great interviews and speeches on YT so if you're only coming across her because you're a fan of Trevor's just know there are lots of other things of hers for you to see. I think she is the most exciting and inspirational presidential candidate I have ever seen and I'm 65.

They won't sister, America is already in the path of paying their debt to karma. They do not know it but karma is already happening. No entity can prosper eternally in such a moral bankrupcy and the Creation stay still. That can't be. America is in its way of selfdestruction, to much hate, to much greed, to much immorality, to much destruction of life... This is self preservation on the part of the Creation itself

I dont live in the US, but I must admit I'm addicted to the US political scene. As someone standing in the outside, with an objective opinion and nothing to lose, I must say she is one of the candidates that should be at the top for the Dem party. Kamala is fishy AF and Joe Biden is not right for the job. But Marianne won't make it, every country is addicted to choosing the most popular candidate and sometimes the most popular one is the worst one.

Agreed. I’m also someone who’s watching this whole process from outside of the ‘bubble’ and I believe that Williamson is one of the best candidates. Yang and Bernie also look good as does Warren, while Biden and Harris are a bit fishy but then again I did some research on both and they also have immoral parts on themselves. It would be great to see Williamson become the first female president in the USA. Warren does seem astute, stern yet somewhat rigid whereas Williamson seems to have this kind of empathetic aura which people want to reach out to out of need as well. However, I would like to reiterate that perhaps Williamson would need a good right arm that could help them be though when needed to as in to not feel swayed sometimes by emotions too easily as to deal with internal or external problems she might appear to be a bit too gentle but I don’t know. It’s just the impression I’ve gotten so far, because then again we are fed by the media more often than not. We have to keep following and see what will come out of all of this... We cannot jump to conclusions too soon.

I grew up in flyover country in the US, but have traveled (dozens of places) and lived abroad (Japan). Perhaps that's made me more open minded than many in my state? Regardless, I see it the same way you do. I'd be happy if the final showdown was: Sanders, Warren, Yang, Williams, Gabbard, and maybe Gillibrand (I have no logical reason for disliking her, I just don't like her, but she makes enough sense to stay in)

Bballer 23 , the conditions of being undereducated are starting in Kindergarten! When I retired from teaching Kindergarten, I had 28 students, all day long with no aide! One day a week, I didn’t even have a “prep time”...this situation is growing a group of Americans who cannot get a good start! Kindergarteners NEED a lot of one-on-one; especially if they’ve never experienced such attention prior to attending school. This situation is awful for students and impossible for their teachers. “Developmentally Appropriate Practices” would dictate a MUCH smaller student to teacher ratio.😢

@@bonnieikamas1201 exactly right. The school system is so broken right now its ridiculous. It more about indoctrinating kids into far-left ideology and moving cattle through than actually teaching. I know because my grandmother was a teacher for 40 years and she has seen these changes take place
