- 16" x 20" Gallery Profile Canvas
- Gesso
- Paint: burnt umber, titanium white, ultramarine blue, alizarin crimson, cadmium yellow light (in this video, I used Golden Acrylics and M. Graham).
- Variety of brushes, including a foam brush for priming the canvas
- Sandpaper: 220 and 320 grit
- Liquitex Professional Slow-Dri Blending Medium
- Kamar by Krylon spray varnish

I had several "aha moments" while watching this informative tutorial. Your content has been so helpful, and I plan on applying the information on a painting I'm currently working on. Your final painting turned out beautifully! Here's what I learned today: Mix burnt umber directly into the gesso for an immediate warmer tone on the canvas Use two different sandpaper grits to smooth the canvas Use wax paper over wet paper towels to keep paints damp Ultramarine blue and burnt umber make a beautiful black that can be adjusted to warm or cool the paint Apply thicker paint where blending will occur Qtips make excellent blending tools (why haven't I been doing this already?)

Do you use dry Qtips to blend or do you dampen the tip first?

I tend to use dry brushes for blending, but a damp-tipped Q-tip to remove paint. So if I'm working on something and make an error, a Q-tip will just take it away. But for blending, I prefer brushes!

This painting is incredible and I love your teaching style!! I liked how you didn't give all of the technical painting tricks at the start and worked them into the video -- like introducing Block Model Detail towards the end. Made the video really easy to watch and the techniques/tricks easier to remember

I have just come across your channel and I thank-you for the walk-through of this painting. I find acrylics challenging (a love-hate relationship) but I would like to try this approach (even though I tend to be more impressionistic), but this painting was so beautiful that I would like to give it a try. I use a script detail synthetic hair brush with long bristles, which I find works much more effectively than the short bristle detail brushes :)
