I have found using LED Plant GROW LIGHTS which is closest to sunlight. It's has helped me see the true colors. The CRI is something I did not know about. Thanks for your time explaining lighting . It really has been beneficial 😊

Really useful explanation. One of those videos you need to watch and make notes. 😀 Though directed at artists this is really useful for anyone who uses colour in their hobbies or crafting too. My wife does colouring but refuses to get decent lights. For christmas she is getting a proper studio light which luckily meets all the requirements you set out.

Oooh lovely, I bet she will appreciate that immensely!!! And you’re right, any kind of activity that involves reading colours would benefit from a better lighting setup. I’m so happy you enjoyed it!!!

This video was extremely helpful, especially with our Canadian winter approaching! I'll have to stop in at Home Depot tomorrow. I loved your canoe painting and what a great view you have out of your studio window!!

Oh my gosh YES winter is coming. It's so dark out so early now!!! And thank you so much for your kind words about the view, it's a bit of a show off right now with the fall colours coming out but the one perk of all the leaves falling off is that I get a bit more light in the studio, woo hoo!!!

Great info thank you! What is the light fixture you use to power your waveform tube lights please?
@MarianneVanderDussen25 күн бұрын
Just an ordinary T8 light fixture from Home Depot! I got one that could hold four bulbs, but it's major overkill for most scenarios. I like having it and the bulbs though, just in case I need the extra light!

Thank you so much. You have translated these terms I have never understood. I am in the market to improve my lighting and this gives me the perfect roadmap! I tried your dimmer link but it doesn’t direct me to your specific one with the remote. Would you be able to attach it again? Or maybe it is not available anymore. Thank you again. I will be checking out more of your videos and Skillshare classes. ❤😊

Oh no, I'm sorry the link isn't working! Which country are you coming from? This is the Canadian link, let me know if you want me to link to a specific one in your country. My link is from Genius, and it tries to find comparable links in whichever country you're coming from, but it doesn't always find a perfect match. Here's the link to my Canadian store: amzn.to/3ZZC7wD

Hello Marianne, I loved your video and how you explained everything. It has been very helpful. Subscribed to your channel too. I am an artist and art educator too. I have more students wanting to learn in the later part of the day and I always get shadow of my hand due to the overhead light and if I use an extra lamp near the art to compensate, it creates a glare on the work making it difficult for my students to see ( I use acrylics) and also gives me a headache. Can you please suggest how to tackle this?
@MarianneVanderDussen17 күн бұрын
Try diffusing your light! I'm currently shooting overhead for my colour mixing course, and when I use an ordinary light, it creates tons of glare. But when I use a softer diffused light, no issues. You can look for diffusion cloths online if you want to continue using your existing lighting setup, just make sure your bulbs are LEDs and not too hot, otherwise it's a fire hazard. Good luck!

I'm so mad that here in Brazil the Philips brand bulbs are all CRI 80, even the same ones that you showed in the video :(
@MarianneVanderDussen2 ай бұрын
Oh shoot, sorry to hear that! If you get any diffused natural light that’s honestly the best thing in the world, the CRI is just trying to mimic it. Just keep doing what you can where you can and you’ll do great 😊

Excellent tips on proper lighting for Artists. I have been looking for a light to use on my tripod. After your video, I think it may be too close to the canvas. It is priced st $150, I will not be buying that.
@MarianneVanderDussenАй бұрын
I’m so glad that this video helped you! I’m certainly not against very expensive lights, but only if they actually serve your purpose. If you’re able to adjust the lumens or brightness on a light that’s close to your canvas, it’s no problem at all! But if it’s too bright, You’re absolutely right, it will just work in opposition to your goals. Good luck with your lighting!
