Should government be run like a business? No, says Donald Cohen, the founder and executive director of In The Public Interest and author of the book “The Privatization of Everything: How the Plunder of Public Goods Transformed America and How We Can Fight Back"
In this episode, Marianne & Donald go deep into the insidious ways that private industry exerts undue influence on our government. These interests “strip public goods of their power to lift people up, creating instead a tool to diminish democracy, further inequality, and separate us from each other.”

My brother emigrated to Canada 35 years ago. (Dual US citizen) we compare notes for his coverage and now that I’m on Medicare. Aside for socialized medicine, he also pays for a supplemental insurance, for those “tests, etc.” that he would have to get in line and wait for in Canada. Even with that extra premium, his costs are nil in comparison to what we pay here. Granted his income taxes are higher, but at least he’s knows he’s getting something for them. Yes, “things” do take time. But, now we are dealing with the forces that are fighting tooth and nail to take away all the social progress made in the last Century. Get angry, continue to fight the “Good Fight”!

A Canadian friend of mine, received a liver transplant. Yes, he waited, but can you imagine him in the US? Chances are very good, he would be dead today. When people use "waiting" as an argument, it falls short. Many Americans will not only wait, they will never receive!

Sadly, the US corrupt sociopaths took over Canada in the 80s and have been PRIVATIZING healthcare there, so as to get their endless "money fixes" of fiat government money they embezzle via their privatization scam. The US has been taking over countries since before WW1 to embezzle from more and more governments; they have built quite a corruption cartel, including the UK, Australia, Canada and NZ, which they took over in the 70s-80s. Also the EU deal is an unfair deal designed by the US greedy liars, who knew how to make more countries fall prey to their privatization plans by ensuring they gave up their own currency. Greece was the first to fall...

“Neoliberal democracy. Instead of citizens, it produces consumers. Instead of communities, it produces shopping malls. The net result is an atomized society of disengaged individuals who feel demoralized and socially powerless. In sum, neoliberalism is the immediate and foremost enemy of genuine participatory democracy, not just in the United States but across the planet, and will be for the foreseeable future.” Noam Chomsky

The problem with "regulated capitalism" is that it never STAYS regulated. It's just too easy for politicians to move the goal posts, especially in today's political environment. Had it stayed regulated in the first place, we wouldn't be having these conversations.

Why not question the entire system? Maybe you should address the role of corporations… make them temporary institutions like they used to be. That is, they were only legal to complete a project, they became Illegal after the bridge is built, the factory is built, the school is built. You waste our time when you talk about elections.

We stop educating our citizens when education is unattainable. When citizens can’t understand the give and take, balance of society and the world then they become no more than burdensome to society. That’s cancer.

Sorry guys, as much I appreciate your thoughts, they are thought through. Capitalism can't solve what it causes! Not even with strong governments. I'm sure, if you're taking the time to think about this, you're capable of coming to the same conclusion. Call it what you want, socialism, communism or what ever is the goal of ending this madness. It must be a other economic and social structure than capitalism! And capitalism is also incomprehensible with democracy. I mean democracy we never had, not construct which give us a glimp of it.

The fallacy in your argument, is that we are operating under a capitalist system, when we are not. If we were, these massive corporations would have been broken up, under anti-trust laws. There wouldn’t exist such massive government oversight and regulation on issues, so clearly, laid out in the constitution to be off-limits. You can’t blame capitalism if you are not practicing it. We are not. It’s called an oligarchy.

I see bot conversation yet no real discussion. The comment count doesn't match actual conversations in the comment section. I have seen this on all my favorite channels discussing these conversations about government (Russel brand, Joe Rogan, Dore, Tulsi gabbard). I'm assuming this is the new censoring measure this platform is using instead of blatant banning which creates pushback. May want to think about going to another platform or advertise where else we can find these interviews in the intro.
