At Cooperstown there is a video that plays in the auditorium and Mariano is featured remembering his time in baseball and he said “having a gift is when the batter knows what is coming and they still can’t hit it.” One of the most powerful quotes from one of the greatest players to ever play the game.

I was saying that while he was pitching. I remember one time I had this friend who was a Red Sox fan. He got mad at his own closer for not being more like Mo. I told him don't bother because it's not fair to his pitcher. Mo is special. He is one of a kind and if you are going to compare every pitcher to Mo then you will never be happy. The pitcher was Jonathan Papelbon. I said that what Papelbon was doing was normal. What Mo did was beyond comprehension. Even Mo shouldn't be pitching that good.

Most closers if they are lucky dominant a few years; Mo did it for almost 20. Anytime he entered a game the other team basically knew it was almost impossible to come back. One man, one team, one pitch; and he stayed humble and focused throughout his entire career; in an age today that most athletes do anything but. I’m glad to say I saw him pitch his whole career from 1995-2017. Mariano was the best closer and I say with confidence there will never be any other like him!

People were saying that Mariano may break down in tears during his speech. I'm not yet halfway through the video and he's still holding up very well. I'm losing it. My dad brought me up on the Yankees. Hie, being an older father than the average kid had when I was growing up, taught me much about the Yankees legendary history. This was all during a time when the Yankees were at their worst, from the mid-1960s through the early 1970s. There weren't many active legends playing at the time. After Mantle retired, Bobby Murcer and Mel Stottlemyre were my heroes of the time. I am thankful to have knowledgeably shared the experience with my dad when the Yankees won 2 consecutive World Series in 77 and 78. Lou Pinnella was his go-to guy at the time. I loved Lou also, as well as Reggie, whom my dad dislikes because he thought he was too lazy. Well, I laid it into my dad in 77 after those 3, game 6 World Series home runs. I just wish my dad could have been around to see the future Yankees, such as Jeter and of course the GREAT Mariano Rivera. This team and this kind of players have helped me keep a youthful mind for all these years. Move forward to 2019. We Have an AWESOME TEAM. GO YANKEES!!!
