Very impressive! If you can say goodbye to those beautiful clothes, surely I can part with my old things, which are nowhere near as nice. I am a little bit of a hoarder, but your courageous declutter was so genuine and so dignified that I am now inspired. Thank you!

In the past 2-3 years I've been updating my style and getting more classic/timeless pieces. So, I've needed to donate lots of clothes that no longer suit me or that I love but haven't worn. I also retired and my lifestyle has changed. I have a bit of a jacket, blazer, coat addiction and just yesterday I realized that I own 4 denim jackets. Two of them were practically identical (why???) so after careful consideration and a try-on session in front of the mirror I am donating 2 of them to my local Buy Nothing Group. I love to bless other people with special pieces that I no longer have use for.

We used to have a second home in Mexico where we would spend winter and just generally wind down . We were in Puerto Vallarta which is in the state of Jalisco. It was funny to hear you mention some of the Mexican footwear brands and I bought a lot of shoes and sandals very cheaply in some of the large supermarkets which Mexico has in abundance . Our daughter is going back there in a couple of weeks time and I’ve given her a list ! 😂

This was very helpful! I’m decluttering my closet this weekend. I like how you talked through your thought process in deciding what to let go of. I tend to hang onto clothes I don’t wear for a variety of reasons. Side note: I need to watch your video on how to shop. That will likely minimize my buying things that are not a wow for me. I ordered both your books, one arriving tomorrow! 🙌🏻 I’m glad I found your channel! ❤️

Thank you for this video Marie-Anne. What struck me the most was that you didn't seem to be letting go of any items because they were "out of style." I was waiting to see if you were going to let anything go because it looked "dated," but you didn't, which is a true testament to the advice you give us each week about classic pieces and French chic style. By the way, I absolutely LOVE the idea of using your loft as a working space for your video shoots. This space is so beautiful and unique, and what a wonderful way to bring it back to its full glory! As well, Carl seems to have the lighting set up perfectly for you. Bravo Carl!

I am having a huge declutter of my whole house. I’ve worked so hard on my wardrobes and I feel I’ve finally achieved my goal, but I had to revisit them at least three times. The thing I couldn’t get rid of was the outfit I had for my son’s wedding thirteen years ago, I still think it’s beautiful and it made me feel so fabulous. I wish your clothes fitted me, I would buy your Hobbs dress! Also, I am a huge Calla shoe and boots fan. That’s another thing I’m grateful to you for. I love your tip, if it’s not a wow, it’s a no. The other thing I did was turn all my hangers round, once I’d worn something, I put it back in the wardrobe the correct way, it made it so easy in the beginning to see what wasn’t being worn x

I declutter very often , and have veeeery few items. I decluttered a few months ago because a charity shop in Ulverston was in great need of items after the pandemic made them close temporarily . And as I know how tough the last two years have been for many families I decided to declutter and donate. I had a bit of a hard time giving away a few handbags that I would keep just for special occasions , and those Bimba y Lola wellies that EVERYONE loved and commented on whenever I wore them. But I felt so much better for doing it.

My difficult cast-offs are two extremes: evening wear because it is expensive and I think it better to hang onto them instead of needing to buy something new that I may not like as much; and casual clothes for housework and yardwork. I have piles of sweatpants and hoodies and tees, and I wore them more than I care to admit during lockdown, partly because they are just so easy to wash. I love the black evening bag! I have a similar one but much smaller: it held keys, ID card, a folded $20 and lipstick, from the days before cell phones. It seems like it was more fun and civilized to have been untethered from technology; or perhaps I only remember it that way because I was so much younger, élas.

Living out in the country does allow for a different type of wardrobe, so I can see where some of those items you decided to part with, Marie-Anne, may not suit your new lifestyle. I live in the desert so pieces I have had for years that were bought because I lived in colder climates are not necessary for my day to day. I kept a few items so when I travel, I will be able to layer in case I need. My capsule now includes lighter, breathable fabrics and also adjustments had to be made regarding shoes. The "flip-flop" is the footwear choice among many here in the Valley, however, I keep those reserved for at home. Recently I purchased a pair of Hermes-like sandals which go with everything and makes me feel like I am on a constant 😉holiday!

I have a beautiful dark green fitted, lined jacket which is about 15 years old. I wore it a lot and received many compliments on it because the design is a little quirky and the fit was really good. It went with so many things - jeans, smart trousers, summer dresses. Unfortunately, it no longer fits (it shrank in the wardrobe) and it has even been worn so much that the velvet has worn down around the shoulder seams and a few other places. I don't think it is even fit to give to charity. I've kept it thinking maybe I can wear it for gardening but of course I haven't. I'm not sure I can part with it. Maybe I will take it apart and sew some little jewelry pouches or something with it.

I appreciate your reasoning in deciding which items to sell or donate so that someone else can enjoy them. I also appreciate your slight hesitation in letting an item go that has been a favorite and has served you so well, as I think we all have special feelings for certain garments in our closet. Positive videos like this one are so helpful in motivating me to continue paring down my closet. Jackets and sweaters are harder for me to declutter than other items.

Good afternoon Marie-Anne! It was a surprise seeing that even you declutter! But, then, why shouldn’t you because some things do change…our weight, where we live, lifestyle changes such as retirement, etc. I must admit my hesitation comes in decluttering shoes (more than clothes) because I take care of my shoes and they last plus they work within my classic style. Isn’t it strange how we get attached? I need to go through my shoes like I have my clothes! Thank you for the encouragement! 💕

I lucked out. My weight dictated what had to go. Now that I’ve lost weight, I tried everything on and if it wasn’t flattering, it was a Non! I had custom tailored suits from 20+ years ago always in my closet. My ex and some friends tried a few times to convince me I needed to let them go. I refused, knowing how much I paid for them. Where I was in life didn’t call for me to wear them…then I gained weight and could not. I am proud to say I’m using them as the capsule for my new wardrobe today. I have added more pieces and have a very bespoke, curated closet now that I love! If only I could do the same for some of my sweatshirts and tshirts…🙄🙄🙄🙄

They’re classic (timeless) and I keep thinking that as soon as they’re gone, I will “need” them...and will never find, the same style or quality again. I passed them on to good will and have made some women very happy, because I had some good brands and a lot of gorgeous shoes. I would order shoes from the UK company that makes comfortable shoes for bunion sufferers, but I can't afford them. Instead, I intend to order a wider width (not usually available) or half a size larger to give my bunions enough room for comfort. I have enough flats, but need heels in basic colors. xo~linda

It would have been nice if somebody in my circle of family, friends or acquaintances could have stepped up to help me. Then, my mother was dying and since I was taking care of her in my home, nobody, absolutely nobody, came forward to lessen my burden. On the bright side, now that my husband is dead and my mother is dead, i get to look in my closet. Yesterday, I opened a garment bag and found the gorgeous, reversible pink silk kimono jacket and black brocade kimono jacket that Xing, my son's master Chinese ballet teacher, gave me years ago. It’s something that I need to do, and when I have attempted it I’m not successful because I think about what I spent on an item, or that I might wear it in the future etc. Right now my closet is brimming. I will do what you suggest and pick up each item and see how I feel about it and if it’s not a wow to just let it go. That’s manageable and I don’t have to over think it. So many lovely items, Marie-Anne! I give you credit for being able to part with them. I struggle with one part of decluttering: I used to think that I was giving my unwanted clothes a second chance with another person, but I've since learned that only a small percentage of donated clothing finds a new home. I'm not judging anyone at all for donating to charity, because I do it, too. But how to reconcile knowing that our clothes may end up in a landfill? I'd appreciate your insight. :) Also, where are you listing your clothes? I'd love to look at a few of your dresses! Keep the good advice coming!

Goodwill in the States now handpicks all the best items and re sells them at higher prices at their own line stores so there isn't much to choose from in the actual store. I think this is sad for people that really are struggling and want to find something special once in a while. I don't think many people know that, I was shocked

Bonjour Marie-Anne, I had a major declutter of my wardrobe last year and a complete overhaul of both dresses and a ‘whoosh’ out you go to the last couple of pairs of denim jeans...some hardly worn...but leaving blue stains on my furniture, even the oldest pair which had been worn and washed many times; yet still leaving stains. So now I only wear white jeans. I lost a lot of weight since 2020 and got down gradually to Size 12 from Size 16 plus!! However, I have kept a couple of size 14 clothes because I may possibly put on weight due to the medication that I am now taking as after treatment following the cancer operation last December. They are a fall back really while I bring any ‘excess’ weight back under control. 😀

I bet you feel a lot better especially the ones that you are giving away. I can’t keep anything be it cloths or jewellery that I don’t use or wear we are lucky to be able to give them to the Salvation Army and we know that they will put them to good use.

I have a hard time letting things go that are still cute 🥰 I have some boots like that. Also vintage pieces. I finally gave away a suit that was too tight around the waist that was a great vintage piece. I probably could do more although I have been de cluttering my whole house for a while. Great video. Will give me the push I need.

I hang onto two small evening bags which I have never used. They don't take up much space. I keep hoping a fabulous man will ask me out now that Covid restrictions are nearly gone. My priority for the last week has been purging my files, which can be emotional with sentimental items from my childhood and love letters from men who are now dead. I have no children so no reason to keep piles of paper.

I declutter all the time. Some stuff is just not my style anymore and I let go. I donate or re- sale . I do keep some of the classics even though I haven’t wore it for a while. Probably this year I will get a closer look and let go of more stuff. 😢

I cleared so many things out of my wardrobe last year. So many clothes have tight sleeves these days, they were the first ones to go. And the ones of poorer quality. It seemed like all of a sudden I had to shift, pull, twist, prod and poke to make things work 😂 It couldn’t be I gained weight surely! 😁

I hate having to let go of things, but eventually, they just have to go, there crowding out the clothing I do wear or taking the place of something new that should be there, my biggest problem is forgetting what i do have, from season to season, as the weather changes, things are put away or end up at the back of the cupboard and forgotten, things that are now too small, no longer suit my lifestyle or my cat has decided is now her permanent sleeping nest of clothing have to be reassessed and regretfully discarded, but that's life, things come and go and there are always more things to discover

You seem to me rather inconsistent with this video.. ....telling us again and again french chique clothing always will be en mode, because they are classic and made of the best fabric. I agree on that. I hardly ever let go clothes....because of that very reason. Why not store them? In 10 years those clothes who are now maybe old fashioned looking will be modern again. You have plenty of room! 😂 My clothes are very well organized. I have no overload. Hopefully you will not get any regrets.......

I haven’t done my annual declutter for this year yet. Over summer it’s too hot to be doing anything that isn’t essential so I like to wait until autumn, which is almost here. This year won’t be a really big one because I did that last year. There will be a few things to put on eBay but not the huge amount of stuff to be donated that there was last year.

I find it hard to declutter my clothes that are too big for me, they are the best quality ones in my wardrobe. I unexpectedly lost 35 lbs. a few years ago and it’s stayed off, surprisingly, but the “temporary” replacement items I got aren’t as good quality (I don’t have the income I used to). I altered what I could, but it’s really only possible to reduce garments by one size without completely re-cutting and remaking them, and I lost nearly three sizes. I barely wore some of those bigger items and I hate to let them go without having enjoyed them much. At first it made sense to keep them in case I regained the weight, but it’s been four years, time to let go, boo-hoo.

Gosh, I have lost fifty pounds this year. So I thought mm? I have a closet full of clothes I bought over the years with the thought I would wear them one day, not a unique story. So I tried them on and oh boy, these off the rack many of them QVC clothes that looked so good on the models, look awful! I found your channel a couple of months ago and have bought my first white silk blouse from LuLu Silk.. Perfection. So I have decluttered a lot of clothes with tags and sold them for peanuts. The ones I had been wearing were so worn out because I was fat and ashamed and never bought new clothes, they were no good to even give to charity! My question to you is do you wear a jacket every day? I have started copying you and I have found the perfect cream linen LLBean jacket with tag on eBay. The first of your videos was the white Tee shirt one and it's hard to find a good one. So I bought a four pack of men's size large white cotton tee shirts without pockets from Walmart and they are a great bargain, not even see through! Love your videos Madame, you are such an inspiration to so many ladies. 💕

Decluttering is necessary from now and then. Both clothings and other things/items will take up too much space if nothing is being removed. Many beautiful pieces you got there, too bad you have to sell them. Very beautiful skirts there! Send them to me.... ha ha ;)
