I finally figured it out. I save things out of guilt, my Mom made this for me or it used to be hers; my sister-in-law brought this to me from wherever, ect. I keep more things out of guilt than joy. Hardly anything gives me joy...it's just stuff.
@Em22-wtf3 жыл бұрын
Lol, I wouldn't say "hardly anything gives me joy..."... But I save stuff out of guilt or sentiment. Other things just last forever bc I take good care of my stuff lol, but get bored with them, like clothes, so I buy newer styles, then I have an overabundance. You know you have a lot of jeans & Ts when you're looking up how to maximize drawer space... On YT... At 2am...as you're putting the laundry away! Why now? I forgot all about them after I plopped them on my bed at 6pm... Ughh, haha!

Me too. Especially with relatives that are no longer alive - my grandma bought me these dolls, she had not a lot of money but saved and picked them out just for me. Or my uncle’s stamp collection that meant the world to him. I feel awful to get rid of something like that. But I just don’t have the space and don’t really want the items anyway, I just don’t want to feel like a bad or ungrateful person. It’s so hard! But also - they gave me these things to enjoy, not to burden me with them. So idk why I feel so bad about it. I’m going to start by getting rid of ONE thing, and take pictures of it just in case I ever want to look back on it. I think it’ll be easier to keep going after that, once I see that the world didn’t come to an end lol

If you have kids, change it up with any outfit set! My little one has a ton of 2 piece pajamas, which made it hard for her to pair them when I had all the tops and bottoms seperate, in seperate drawers. So I put these "PJ Burritos" together! You fold the shirt totally, then take the pants, fold them in half short ways, and put the shirt on the end of the pants (the foot end) now roll the whole thing up... And.. Voila! A PJ burrito! My kid loves pretending to eat them when she pulls a pair our for the night. Great Kondo Mod!

ありがとうございました Kondo san. You and this method are changing my life for the better. I started the process a year ago and due to 50+ years of stuff collected and inherited I was drowning in stuff!. I’m ADD and very creative but clutter kills my creativity. Thanks to your method I have a better focus on simple, beautiful, peaceful, organized living so that my natural creativity can flourish and thrive! I already had the character trait that I didn’t want things in my life or my garden that didn’t have multiple purposes or uses. I don’t want lots of beautiful things just to look at them on a shelf. You just have more work to keep them dusted. I just needed a way to organize my thinking about my belongings and what is important to me! Again, ありがとうございました Arigatou gozaimashita for your wonderful lessons.

I love this way of folding! I'm doing a reset of my wardrobe, clearing out stuff for donation or tossing and keeping only what I like. The only issue I'm finding with this is I have to go slightly off-script because I'm a bigger woman so my clothing isn't slim like all the ones she shows. Pants and shorts have excess crotch material. But, I'm finding my own way of getting it done. Now I have the satisfaction of looking into my drawers and seeing nice, neat packages that I can pluck out.

Folding properly holds the cloth taut and erases wrinkles, making the material stronger and more vibrant! You don’t need to make a sharp crease by running your fingernail along the edge as you would in origami. If you apply a firm pressure, the garment will keep its shape long term.

Someone may already have mentioned this... I don't like the fold marks on a turtle neck or t-shirt, after they've been packed in a drawer for a while. So -- when I take a shirt out of the drawer -- I grab the spray bottle that I use for hair, iron, etc., and spritz the fold marks lightly, front and back. And voilà! By the time I'm ready to put on the shirt, it's dry and the fold marks are gone.

Marie! I could fit all your clothes in my lunchbox and still have room for chips because you are so tiny. You really did help me get rid of all the clothes I fooled myself into thinking would come back into style someday.

Pretty sure more regular forms of folding clothing are faster/more practical/less crumpled up.

Genuine qs - if you fold everything like that how would you know what's what? i have about 10 black tops. if i folded them all like that, i'd have to basically pull everything out to find one black top and it's all messy again.

I usually fold them so you can see some of the design like flip them over so the back is up then fold, might not work for you but it works for me

I actually don't have a problem with this. I use only solid color shirts and more 70% are black. I just place the shirts in roughly the same place every time and I just remember that specific black shirt is towards the front and so on.

if i have more than one shirt in the same colour i usually just store them "upside down" street folding so you can see their label in the neck hole

@@karikl438 Ahhh, do a video! That would be such a satisfying thing to watch. I am in the same boat, but man does this help.

One point to note….Clothes do have wrinkles in some spots when you are ready to wear them…Some more than others, and for leggins and such it doesn’t much matter, but tops/pants sometimes it does. If you have the space to hang clothes, why not, they’ll have less wrinkles and material gets to breath. I’ve been rectangular folding my clothes for years and when traveling folded and rolled, so all clothes fit in carry-on luggage, but I never thought to store clothes the same way in a drawer at home, because, I did have to iron some things once I got to my travel destination. Love her idea to be thankful for clothes/linens as you fold…I always grumble through this task…But wouldn’t hurt me to be mindful of the blessing …Like…Spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.
