I love this song. To me it's a statement about celebrity culture and how the media have the power to make ordinary human beings in to Christ like figures. Of course that requires our participation and there's something in that too. I've been thinking lately though that there's a deeper level to it. The chorus "Nothing's gonna change the world, nothing's gonna change" can easily be passed off as indulgent Nihilism, but if we see the song through the lens of Non-duality there's more going on. Non duality and specifically the direct path teaches us that the idea that there are "no-things" and "some-things" is incorrect. Things, i.e- the objective world, thoughts feelings and perceptions do not exist. There is only the one, infinite boundless and timeless experience. All "things" are manifestations within consciousness, so rather that seeing the chorus as an ode to Nihilism we can see it as a mantra. No-thing can ever change the world. Only the recognition of the true nature of the self, as infinite unbridled consciousness can change our world. Manson, as much as I love him and as clever as he is, misses this point. His entire perspective, is rooted in the material world. Society, culture, religion, morality and ethics.. these are all material considerations. Non-duality shows us that these aren't reality. this is exemplified in "in the shadow of the valley of death" when he says "I wish that I could be a king, then I'd know that I am not alone." I think he's taking about Christ in that line and when he says "king" he's not alluding to material wealth and power. he's talking about Christ who can never be alone because he is one with and of the Father. The point here is that from a non-dual perspective we can never be alone or not good enough, because we are the one, the infinite, the creator of all reality which is conscious awareness and it is conscious awareness that manifest all we know to be reality.

Wohax Games Strange, I have heard him talk about this album a couple of times. I know I read in a book a long time ago that he said the album he listened to the most was OK Computer.
