it sucks that that is how she is remembered. she was such an amazing person that deserved the world and more, and that's how we remember her? there are so many amazing poses, she could have been sitting with a book on a bench but no this pose is what it is. she was more than that.

It’s probably because it’s known to be iconic. She always posed like this but i still find it upsetting that this is the only way we honor her
@fwmqri
@fwmqri Жыл бұрын
Not to be that type of person, and other people agree with me. But, if you are bothered by it because clearly you are. YOU are the one sexualizing the pose. It’s nothing bad plus it’s just a pose and no matter what pose they chose we would still be honoring/remembering her for the same thing. No offense but deal with it pls. Complaining about it on the internet is not the best thing to do. Even if it was her “sitting on a bench with a book”, we would still be remembering her FOR a pose. Complaining about these things are nonsense.
@fwmqri
@fwmqri Жыл бұрын
Not to mention it is a VERY iconic pose to the community as you can see in the comments. Saying otherwise, yes is an opinion, but the fact you’re complaining is upsetting. PS: Instead of being bothered or sexualizing the pose whatever the story is behind this comment, just respect we are even honoring her. The people who invented the statues of her should not be ashamed because they are doing the right thing by remembering her.
@valentine1770

For context, the shooting of this scene was particularly traumatic for Marilyn. Apparently, her husband - DiMaggio was so mad at her, people in the neighbouring rooms could hear her screaming and crying out in pain all throughout the night. The next morning, she showed up with nasty bruises all over her arms 😞

For people who are saying that this is her iconic pose that's why they made it but no one would like to be known like this after their death and if it's not sexualizing what do we call it? childish? good? cute? Honoring?

@@honey_luv99 That scene, from "The Seven Year Itch" (& the still photos from it) is among the most iconic of her entire career. It was considered one of the most memorable scenes because of the way the air from the subway grate blew her skirt up..very racy for the time & had everyone talking about her legs. A huge billboard of it was at the premiere of the movie, towering over the theater, & over the years millions of posters have been made of it. For many people around the world & several generations, if you mention Marilyn this is the image that comes to mind. That's why I mentioned the statue's legs. They don't really look like hers & I think a sculpture or painting of such a famous image could've been more accurate although the statue is still impressive. That was my point. If her face had been off I would've commented on that. Don't know if you know the story but that scene is also famous for causing marital strife for Marilyn. A huge crowd was watching as several takes were filmed. Her husband, Joe DiMaggio, was there & got more & more upset each time the wind/skirt effect was repeated. He was furious that it showed her underwear & didn't like the crowd's reaction each time. Marilyn later told friends that when they went home that night they argued over it & Joe hit her. The marriage went downhill from there. That scene & the stills from it are among the most memorable of her career for several reasons. Fans loved it but it turned out to be a bad moment for her & is recounted & discussed in all the biographies of her life. For most people those 2 or 3 shots from that scene simply showcase her overall beauty, sex appeal & glamour. As for my comment, it wasn't a concern as much as an observation.

Everyone keeps on saying the same statement of "why isn't it a statue of her reading a book", but that's like a statue of a captain without his captain uniform on. This pose is iconic because it sums her up. She was an intelligent woman who used her sexuality and overall femininity to gain respect and fame in Hollywood. Shes comparable to Jessica Rabbit.
