True. I also believe DiMaggio's feelings were true for Marilyn but he had inhibitions and hangups he was having a tough time dealing with, being married to what the world believed then, and still do, that she was the most beautiful and sexiest woman to have ever walked the earth, which she is. FYI, they were planning to remarry when she died. She was murdered.

When you listen to James Dougherty’s interview about his wife ,NormaJean, and then listen to Arther Miller’s interview about his wife,Marilyn , the difference is astounding . James has so much more heart and soul as a man . He has so much more dignity and kindness as a human being .

Agreed. Miller was despicable, just see how he behaved with his own son who was mentally retarded. Plus read Maria Riva ´s biography about her mother, Marlene Dietrich, in which she tells Miller used to have orgies with women. He was interested in Marilyn only because he wanted to f*** her. Poor Marilyn... she always surrounded herself with the wrong poeple...

Agree. If you read Goddess by Anthony Summers, Miller wrote terrible things in his diary about her then left it out in full view for her to find. He wrote he 'pitied' her & she was 'genetically unfit to be a mother". He only wanted a screen siren, not a real woman who had insecurities & flaws like we all do.

While she was alive, Jim Dougherty's second wife would not allow him to mention Marilyn Monroe. Only when Marilyn died did he defy his wife. He got a call from a police friend who told him his former wife was dead. He got off the phone and said, "Say a prayer for Norma Jeane, she's dead". After his second wife's death he made a lot more appearances and gave many interviews. He even wrote a book about Marilyn Monroe/Norma Jeane and their marriage.

Missditabomb why would he mention his former wife Norma Jean who changed to become Marilyn Monroe (a sex symbol) that goes around and have relationships with married men... why would he mention his former wife in front of his current wife? DiMaggio had been divorced for nearly a decade by the time he met Marilyn. Rather, it was Miller who left his first wife for Marilyn.

@@musicaltheatergeek79 People who don't research their facts. I don't know much about miller's marriage but Joe dimaggio had been divorced a while before meeting Marilyn

+mba2ceo I hate to say it even tho I am a Marilyn fan but Jim had the more fulfilling life cuz he married & had children after she divorced him & lived a long and happy life even tho he was not a rich & famous actor. Marilyn would had still be alive today if she was not attracted to powerful men like JFK & RFK also to the mob men from that time. Don't get me wrong I am a huge fan of hers but she made the wrong choices & the choices she made lead to her death.

Oh come if you care about you would of never left by herself , she had no parents and you leave her,she would of never went to be a movie star. I don't think you care about her because she was mental. Now you talk to late.

Too bad they couldn’t have stayed together. Kind of like how Dolly Parton being married to her non famous husband for so long despite their career differences. Too bad, in those days I guess the people in charge of her contract had so much control over her personal life.

Marilyn shouldve went back with him when she was contemplating to end her career. Shouldve been atleast close with him. But they mightve some differences with one another we dont know about.
