Over 23,000 ran the 2024 Marine Corps Marathon in near perfect weather with Marines and supporters helping runners along the way.
Runners were treated to music by the Quantico Marine Corps Band near the Lincoln Memorial as well as other bands along the course. Nunn provided very good electrolyte drinks for replenishment and thousands of volunteers cheered runners along.
The volunteers of Run to Remember placed photos of warriors who gave the full final measure from past battles from mile 12 to 13.
The race started at about 40 degrees F in a rising sun and temperatures rose to about 60 degrees F by the afternoon. The course has a sloping hill at mile 1 1/2 to mile 2 and a sloping grade down but is relatively flat elsewhere.
Next year will be the 50th running of the MC Marathon. Who would have ever expected a small race that was first organized in 1975 to commemorate the bicentennial of the founding of the Marine Corps, to have lasted another 50 years.
But if there’s anything the Marines do well, it is to honor traditions and this race will almost certainly be run another 50 years, if not permanently.
