Poor Senchou, I feel really bad for her. I hope she recovers soon, physically since she’s not very well but also mentally since it seems the hate from the Tetris tournament is still effecting her in some way. context: Pekora had just organized the Pokemon Metronome tournament, and with Suisei they decided to organize a Puyo-Tetris tournament, this tournament was the event with the highest views in the history of hololive (after Coco's graduation). You can participate using Tetris or using Puyo, Puyo has a great advantage over Tetris at a beginner - intermediate level; Pekora challenged Suisei for several days in Tetris vs Tetris to publicize the tournament, Suisei even supervised the participants during practices. Suisei, being an expert in Tetris100, was seen as someone invincible and respected. Marine used Puyo and swept everyone and won the final, then in the heat of emotion people asked that Suisei (tetris expert) play against Marine, and Marine swept the floor with her, "fans" did not like this and the criticism against Marine began "stop" "read the atmosphere" were some of the comments. Pekora almost started crying the next day and it was one of the reasons why she decided to step away from organizing tournaments for a while. It's all those people's fault.

@@nagelsleu3339it's the Japanese collectivist attitude showing up. Basically someone steamrolling everyone else is seen as being unfair, not giving them a chance. She was seen as being like a pro showing up at an amateur tourney and humiliating everyone, or everyone else just having a silly friendly competition and one person shows up taking it too seriously and running the fun for everyone else. The angry 'fans' basically wanted her to throw some games because she was "too good", and some of the others didn't take the tourney nearly as seriously as she did. They were being white knights because their precious oshi might feel bad for not taking things more seriously. It's nothing more than bullying at the end of the day, under the pretense of a perceived slight.

I still have a pipe dream that whenever enough holos pick up SF6 to have a tournament Marine will show up out of nowhere with a pocket Ken or something and just steamroll the bracket revealing she played 3rd Strike as a middle schooler or something. She has definitely built that reputation of "randomly godlike in a game she never even mentioned before" and I think that's where a lot of the mental fatigue she's talking about comes from. Too much pressure and expectations every time, compounded by her own perfectionism. I loved that puyoteto tournament though, it was a great way to showcase ALL the different levels of skill in various matches and that made it a lot more interesting than just being only for the noobs. And then we got a classic thug finals moment with dark horse Marine vs grandmaster Suisei coming out of the stands. It was peak entertainment, and I think you have to remember that this whole production is supposed to be more about entertainment than actual serious competition.

Tournaments are fun to watch but it's just the nature of tournaments that people get a little too serious about them, both viewers and talents! Viewers expect the talents to do their best, and so many of the talents spend hours practicing for the tournament, because they don't want to disappoint their teams and the people cheering for them. And so a silly event being held in Minecraft or Mario Kart suddenly becomes kind of a big deal for everyone. I wouldn't mind if there were fewer tournaments going forward. I don't like seeing my favorite girls being pitted against each other in big high-stakes event. Casual multiplayer games and trivia events are one thing, but these huge competitions are another entirely. Not to mention how hard they are to organize!

On one hand, sad. With regards to past behavior from chat and stuff, understandable. Behave. But on the other hand, good. They should take breaks from the things that stress them out. Burnout takes a long time to recover from, so best not to have one in the first place. Take breaks, be selective about what to do and participate in, chill. No details known, but Gura's infrequent streaming can be explained by burnout from stress and pressure, which sucks because she's in a position to really go nuts with her platform and audience and influence, and for some reason hasn't. And don't read this as entitled viewer speak, I'm hoping she and the other holomems stay healthy and have fun working and creating their events and songs and things. Mario Kart is a different beast. You can practice all you want, but Mario Kart will find a way to screw you over. lol The year Suisei won over Aqua, Suisei nearly threw away the whole thing on the last race. @@jenniferhamels1176Aqua actually gave let go of the controller after getting hit by a shell just before the goal, after which FBK overtook her, which is a reason why Aqua was initially so frustrated with herself. Towa also disconnected in one of the races, causing the points allocation to change. That race was one which Aqua placed higher than Suisei. If Towa didn't disconnect, I believe they would have at least tied, or Aqua would have been the ultimate victor (assuming other races remained the same, of course).

With all respect and love for Senchou, openly announcing that she wouldn't be taking part in tournaments was a terrible move. It gives agency and a sense of power to the haters who harrassed her during the Puyo tetris tournament. It will make them get worse against her and others. It's unfortunate but that's human nature.

They take this stuff way too seriously man, I just dont understand. Its only some friends playing a video game as a way to interact with people you often dont get the chance to, thats literally all it is.

Not all the tournament event have to be competitive.

The point is that she's the type of person who wants to do her best even in a low-stakes environment (many trained a lot for mario kart despite there being no cash prize or real stakes). It's a struggle for all competitive people to not take things seriously. Aqua, Suisei, and Pekora are all the same way.

You can say it's just for fun and not competitive but by nature a "tournament" is a competition. There's a reason there's scores being kept of the points earned because there is a winner which inversely means there is a loser. Everyone says it's light hearted and just for fun but if you watch enough of the big tournaments collabs they're pretty sweaty and take that shit seriously. They practice like crazy, get frustrated and cry etc. which is great since them trying their best is what makes it entertaining but with nerds on the internet taking it even more seriously than the people participating and starting drama doesn't help.

"But I shouldn't say stuff like that" Wouldn't want fans going around believing talents were real people with feelings now would we? 🤪

It's more of to not give the antis ammo... to let them know they got to her is to invite that behavior more The actual fans know they are a real person behind the avatar, we don't need to be told, right~?

@@ninjablade2 Antis are going to anti no matter what. I see enough dumb behavior from normal fans (and not just in Hololive) to know that they need to be reminded to chill the fuck out sometimes.

Maybe we shouldn't make these clips anymore. Somehow it feels like Marine is trying to defend herself. Too many members now, spots are gonna be limited, no more need to explain stuffs like this, those who want to know, would already know from their sources. I fear the influences of the explaining videos, despite the fact I watch them.

Weird, I was not expecting Marine to get so bent out of shape over fun group tournaments with her work friends... Oh well, that's a bummer

i watch streams very rarely, but from what i read from other commenters, she got a lot of hate during other tournaments, like mario kart for being more experienced than everyone else, and puyo puyo tetris for beating everyone, even suisei. The latter especially sucks because she did practice hard to get that good, so she understandably doesnt wanna go through anything like that again. If i got anything wrong pls correct me, marine fans

She's "bent out of shape" over the psycho haters who harassed her for weeks afterwards and sucked all the fun out of it because they were butthurt about how much better she was than their oshis.

Yeah I didn't realize that (I don't follow any communities or whatever, so I'm unaware of hater stuff happening). Sucks bigtime that people react so violently to a bunch of girls having fun and being entertaining together, wish they could just let em enjoy themselves @@ahoyichimi
