400s is peak piece deluxe, and one of the best stretches of any shounen manga Ive read or seen. So much great worldbuilding and the whole plotline from they arrive at Sabody is quite unlike anything I have seen in shounen. The way things just occur out of control for our main characters and the world continues on is something more akin to Game of Thrones than a shounen anime. Oda is the worldbuilding goat for a reason.

All Ds die with a smile on their face :( Ace was undoubtedly an incredibly kind existence. For as much as he doubtedthe right to his own existence, he embodied what makes it worthy to be alive. The saddest part of his story is that as soon as he found a secure foundation to live on, his life was ripped away from him. It was a brilliant subversion by Oda to have all that effort be in vain. Seeing Luffy getting utterly broken at the end of this episode was really hard to watch. For hundreds of episodes, Luffy's boundless optimism and unflinching will were enough to power through anything to protect those he cares about. The Marineford arc was a turning point in the series. We learn that the New World and the Navy are full of monsters of incredible strength, and that for Luffy to continue his journey at his current level means he may not succeed at protecting those important to him. Oda really knows how to define how the stakes have been raised.

I watched it when it happened and it was out if no where. You at least knew it was coming there’s no way you haven’t seen or heard about this no matter how hard you tried to avoid it.

I don't know how many times I've seen this episode in both manga and anime but each time I can cry. I'd always admired Oda about his unique imaginations and creativities, but after this episode he was revealing all their childhoods episodes, the technic he used (before I couldn't really get why Ace was so important to Luffy just letting us to see him barely in the early episodes, then he shows us how they were closed and how much they cared each other while we are still freshly remember that how Ace's gone) I really think he is just a genius, I couldn't stop crying even after this episode, it continued to make us cry more, a massive way.

Ain’t gonna lie this is the only time I ever cried in all my years of watching anime

The more frustrating thing is that luffy actually freed Ace, so he had this fleeting sense of hope and accomplishment, all to be wrecked by Akainu. Which I think made the scene a thousand times harder to swallow.

Four times I cried a lot in One Piece: - Nami crying - Robin crying - Young Sanji's experience (when they were stranded and dying of hunger) - And ACE dying

I’ve always loved Fairy Tail, but it was honestly painful that they never killed off any major characters. I started liking One piece more because of these deaths. Whitebeard dying and Ace dying for characters development within the story line was enough to make me like it more. Ace was my #1 favorite male character because we shared the same name. I was sad when he died but I think killing him off was honestly the best way to go at 😢

This is without a doubt one of the most goated arc, this scene and Hell, the entire goddamn series is such an emotional rollercoaster!! I bet no one and I mean NO ONE!! would be able to hold back their tears after watching this episode! The writing was simply phenomenal! It was so darn amazing that even Naruto paid homage to this scene in one of it's own episodes! (*wink wink* anyone who watched Naruto's Great Ninja War arc will know!). Mad props to Eiichiro Oda-sensei, he's a rare gem and a storytelling genius! I will always remember One Piece as the show that made me cry for a 'ship'!!! A grown ass man at that!
