@gordonelwell70849 ай бұрын
Flights are coded by the mission they are supporting. For specific missions, there is a specific code (normally associated with some funding stream, or operational goal). The term "training flight" is a general catch-all term used to code flights not associated with any other specific mission or objective. This appeared to be a de-positioning mission to return the helicopter and crew from a deployed training location. These flights are often called a "training flight" because they are generally using flight hours associated with a training funding stream. In other words, a very generic, non specific mission. As far as approval, the pilot in command has the last word on if they should go. If the pilot says "no", they don't go (unless wartime, etc). At any rate, the specific weather forecast by the weather detachment should have provided enough detail on what they would face for the pilot to "make the call". One final thought . . . everyone is assuming the weather brought this helicopter down. It might have been the cause, or perhaps not . . . maybe just a contributing factor. Aircraft crash in good weather too. All of this is just speculation. When the accident investigation board conducts their inquiry, there will be an in-depth study of everything from crew decision making, weather forecast, condition of the aircraft, and countless other factors. Until then, comments here are just speculation. Except the "atmospheric river" crap. That is just the new scare term du jour.
