Mon Dieu. Emmanuel Macron’s gamble to call a snap general election after poor results in the European elections last month looks to have backfired, with Marine Le Pen’s far-right National Rally trouncing the President’s centrist coalition in the first round of voting in France.
Kamal and Camilla talk to The Telegraph’s Paris Correspondent Henry Samuel to find out what it means ahead of the final round of voting at the weekend. With France heading for uncharted territory, could it end in a chaotic parliamentary deadlock?
Plus, England scraped into the quarter finals of the Euros after a dramatic comeback against Slovakia. The Telegraph’s man in Gelsenkirchen Thom Gibbs has all the latest reaction from Germany and says he’d be surprised if Gareth Southgate stays as manager, even if he brings it home this summer.

Why can’t anyone in msm admit that mass immigration imposed by the EU is the entire reason this is happening in Europe everywhere. Without that we would not be in this situation. This and other outlets talk about the right- but don’t mention this is people voting and not the actual right/ maybe the position they have put in and have to vote. It’s the people voting and not the parties the msm have a problem with…shown in the comments from this person reporting in Paris

@gontrandjojo9747
@gontrandjojo9747 7 күн бұрын
That's exactly what will happen. In France people were betrayed by the right of Chirac/Sarkozy (that were right-wing in name only). So they punished them by electing the left of Hollande (that was left-wing in name only). And were betrayed again. Then the establishment was freaking out because both the establishment right and the establishment left were discredited. What to do then? The establishment had a brillant idea: find a guy that is not from the 2 big parties and fool the people by presenting him as anti-establishment, and then we had Macron who won being endorsed by the medias (of course politicians from both the Republicans and the Socialists joined him like rats leaving their sinking ships). Now we have a centre in power (what we always had in reality) that don't even try to fool people anymore by presenting himself as "right-wing" and "left-wing". Of course the fraud didn't last long and Macron and his movement ended up hated by everyone. And we ended with the rise of a radical left with Mélenchon (the clone of your Corbyn) and the rise of a radical right with Le Pen (the clone of your Farage). The centre is day by day being more and more compressed by them.

Samuel needs to expand his vocabulary. He stumbled and mumbled his way through "Is RN still far right?" and basically said nothing of substance. The truth is, the center of politics has shifted way to the left and the left is now extreme left and even what was once referred to as "center right" looks left compared to 20-30 years ago; UK Conservatives are a fine example. Putting the welfare and security of average citizen (legal citizen) first on the political agenda is now considered far right or "populist". This was once the primary function of government but it seems to be the last thing on the mind of the EU elite and most governments in the West. Perhaps the people are saying finally have had enough.

0:23 He couldn't resist having a dig at Farage after just 23 seconds!😂 No, I remember Macron's first win, there was very little real enthusiasm for him, he always seemed a bit strange. That is nothing like Farage today, whose fans love him, and know him like an old friend, as he has been a public figure for 30 years. Macron was an awkward granny-loving wierdo who came from nowhere. In fact the French know Marine much better than Macron, they have witnessed her journey from being a hostage of her bad-boy destructive father to becoming the mature and sensible politician she is today.
