Tbh a coworker that takes you on a drive and even gives you clothes when you've known each other for less than three months really does sound like a really good person (or she was hitting on Marine, but she didn't realize it).

So amusing how she keeps casually outing herself regarding her age. I felt a real jolt of empathetic sadness and nostalgia with her though talking about these people that meant something to her life. Thanks for translating and sharing this with us.

If only the dumb people on the official Hololive subreddit felt that way. I once asked why Shabby wasn’t on the list of good clippers, and they said “he makes mistakes and he didn’t even ask us for help with his Japanese. We’re right here and he didn’t ask us!” Like bruh, a couple words off per video with golden moments is infinitely better than a translator who translates “AAAAAAAAAA” perfectly from horror game streams. I told them that and asked what exactly he gets wrong and they were fixated on the point Shabby didn’t specifically come to them and they wouldn’t tell me any specific errors he makes which makes me think they have a personal grudge against him. It’s actually sad people prefer perfectly subtitled screaming over actual moments that give you an inside look into the girls’ character as a whole. Shabby is probably the best clipper on KZbin if you asked my opinion.

@@chaocobojun2098 Just looking at most of the memes that get upvoted in the main meme subreddit tells you all you need to know about the intelligence of people who actually think of themselves as redditors.

@@chaocobojun2098 And not to mention , Shabby is one of the few clippers that doesn't clickbait or make you feel cheated after clicking on a video. Him and Jshay are pretty similar in this regard. Over the past 2 years I've actually learned enough Japanese to the point that I don't need to watch subbed clips anymore , but I'll always continue coming back to these two because of the moments that they decide to clip.

Shabby is building an extraordinary Marine treasure trove. Good job on providing all these gold nuggets. You say you are shabby but you're actually a top tier curator. More than the usual yabe clips, your videos fill Marine's charater with her full humanity for the people that can't speak japanese or watch the streams.

It is funny that Senchou prepared carefully to place herself as 17 years old when talking about Twitter (saying that it is during grade school) but then failed just few seconds after when talking about MIXI during highschool time That letters story is very deep.. So in Japanese, brilliant doesn't mean clever or talented? Brilliant-sama, what a great senpai. I wish Senchou talked more about her xD This is why I don't trust Senchou when she said she doesn't like girls anymore 😂 Guess people aren't supposed to be connected all the time. So maybe the thing with social apps, they'll make your time with friends less precious because you can see them all the time, whenever you want
@I_am_Siq3 жыл бұрын
Brilliant meaning clever or talented wasn't its first meaning. At first it only meant shiny, sparkly, etc but acquired the other meaning from being used metaphorically a lot.
@herofromthedark3 жыл бұрын
@@I_am_Siq I only ever hear the word "brilliant" being used as a synonym for "clever" by British people. That's just in conversation. In articles though, I see the word "brilliant" be used by well spoken (or written in this case) writers.
@saetharion3 жыл бұрын
@@herofromthedark As joeehrusso said, the original meaning meant bright, shining, captivating, something visually stunning and engaging. Through usage it has aquired additional meanings, the main one's closest synonym might be "amazing" or "incredible", a catch all compliment that can be applied in most situations. Being used to refer to someone's mind or skill is a very common modern usage. One of the things to mention is the separation between meaning and usage is arbitrary, because the point of words is the impact they leave upon the person who reads/hears them, not even mentioning that meanings constantly evolve as language is a constantly changing medium. When a word is used in a certain way with a specific intended effect, and people begin to understand that, it takes on that meaning. Sorry if that was long and unnecessary, I quite enjoy talking about linguistics.
@inexia25772 жыл бұрын
@@saetharion 6 months late, it was very informative, Im not really sure where I have heard the phrase, but brilliant was the adjective that was used to describe jewels and gems or smth, so I thought that originally maybe brilliant meant something else but it isn’t really that big of a change to what the meaning has evolved to

That part about having pen pals and letters having more impact than Twitter - it reminds me highly of very similar motif in the latest "Violet Evergarden: The Movie" (I highly recommend everybody, it is available on Netflix since 13 October 2021 and is probable the most satisfactory conclusion to the series I have seen in a long while, it is even ranked 15 on MyAnimeList, but you have to watch the series called "Violet Evergarden" first). The main character of this story, Violet Evergarden, writes letters to convey people's emotions and to discover emotions for herself (she is a traumatized war veteran, just in general summary) - it is based in about the early 20th century. In the latest move, there appears the newest technology - a phone. A letter vs. a phone... Both have unique features, pros and cons... There is something magical about letters, being careful about each word you want to include in your letter, thinking deeply about each word... Now, we have only instant gratification solutions.

The story about Senchou's penpal reminds me of my presently only friend. We met on a chat app ten years ago when we were still teenagers. I, the ever unsociable one, only tried it coz my older sister told me about it. Two months later I met my friend and we hit it off... Despite the fact that we have absolutely nothing in common. Nothing. Zilch. The total opposites of each other. The "we like what the other hates and vice versa" type. Even to this day we're still friends. (I've been coaxing her for almost a year to watch Hololive, but she gravitated towards Holostars instead. orz) Meanwhile my sister met a guy in the same app, met up with him, gotten knocked up then left behind. And to think she disallow me to meet up with my friend for the same reason lol. (The "she might take me for a fool" part, not the impregnation part) I still haven't met up with her, and honestly I kinda don't want to. Our personalities are such total opposites that I'm concerned of what would happen if we met irl.😅
@sena1673 жыл бұрын
I don't like this idea. If you can't be friends irl I think the friendship is just an illusion you are better off without.
