Yeah, you can do throws with L+M, but you still have to have specific buttons for assist and burst.

Well if I remember it right, Assist = L+H, Grab = L+M, Burst = L+M+H, so essentially you only need 4 buttons to play the game (exclude the Roguelike mode)

I'm playing on her age but I grew up in section 8 so I actually feel for her. Not necessarily, especially if she was poor growing up, it wouldn't be unusual for a poor kid growing up in the 2000s to be given an old SNES and SF2 from a garage sale or something. I gave my SNES & games to a friend's 5-year-old in 2008. Marine talked about watching Lucky Star in high school IIRC, she's not THAT old.

I wanna say in his 40s, guy is still dominating a few people on stream, and even learned Tekken. So far pretty much every Idol Showdown stream has mostly just been the girls fighting with the controls, struggling to do motion inputs, and constantly forgetting which buttons are which. I feel like there is such a big gap between fighting games and every other genre in terms of accessibility.

I've been struggling with the game. My fighting game experience is playing Tekken once a year back in the PS1/2 era. One of the cousins would bring their PS over to the family boxing day gathering at the grandparents house. After moving the direction controls over to the arrow keys, I made ASD the L M and H buttons, just so I'd remember which is which by placing them in order.

@@graemevaughey7432 probably not, but its also incredibly hard to play these kinds of games on a controller. i play all kinds of games, like hard platformers (some called platformhell games), different genres of roguelikes, fps games, racers, puzzle games, souls likes of any subgenre available, rythm games, basically everything. but fighting games? man, i can't frkn learn how to do each move quickly. it always does different ones, especially if games have you flicking your controlstick around while pressing a button. i can sit there trying to do a single advanced move for half an hour before finally getting it once. which is the reason that i very very rarely every even try a fighting game. i just can't be bothered with the controls. idol showdown seems to be on the easy side, but still, if you never play these kinds of games, i bet its still hard to follow^^

@@TheHobgoblyn SF2 and SNES was around in my childhood and I'm closer to 40 than I'd like to be - but that said, in Japan you can still buy SNES games in nerdy stores in Akhiabara etc. so it's not unlikely that she went to those stores and bought games years after their initial release. It's almost confirmed at this point however that she's 30. She herself basically was saying last year that she's not 30 YET and participated in the "soon 30" jokes.

Oh god, I felt her pain. I too had a hard time trying to beat Vega the first times then came Bison fights. Also something I noticed the girls struggling with and also got me is while training the instructions show you how to use the attacks moves but it doesn't show which button you are supposed to use but rather the action, I had to look up the button mapping for that so I would've suggested putting the button icon under the action for easier understanding.

That's done intentionally because it's a PC game and everybody's got a different controller. What if you're using a PS controller instead of an XBox one? What if it's a knock-off gamepad that uses its own weird symbols because they can? What if you're using a Switch Pro which has the same button NAMES as an Xbox controller but in different positions? And lets not even get into all the custom fight sticks there are around. No. Labeling buttons by function is objectively superior.
