Does anyone know how to plumb the Clarisea using the bean animal style drain ?
@UnfilteredJustice6 жыл бұрын
Being this thing is so big, it would be nice if they added two drain inputs on the bigger model if it can handle that much flow anyway. Those of us with dual overflows won't be able to fit 2 of these units into the sump.

Alternatively-buy a SEACHEM Purigen"the bag"-line it with filter floss.toss the floss every 2 or 3 days. Finer filtration than any sock I've tried & seconds to switch out. Try it!

It will be great if on the beginning of the roll will be Velcro and on the end of the roll too, so that way we can attach one to the other one, so no need to remove the whole system out of the sump
@billydanzz6 жыл бұрын
There's a hack where the new roll is stapled to the end of the other......there is a previous MD video where Robert discusses this tip at one of the aquarium conferences. Just search through all the clarisea videos to find it.

You still have to replace the fleece roll when it's exhausted.

Can the ClariSea SK-5000 adapt in a Red Sea XXL 750 removing the filter sock section?
@shyogaming23786 жыл бұрын
José María Valenzuela I have the Red Sea 425 and it did not fit, we had to remove the sock compartment. Easy job with a good razor blade, and easy to put back in with a bit of silicone.
@BulkReefSupply6 жыл бұрын
I fit the SK-3000 into the drain chamber of the Red Sea Reefer 525 without any modification aside from shortening the drain pipe. For the SK-5000 you need an area that is 6" x 10.5" to fit.

José María Valenzuela I went for the bigger one, and that’s why I removed the filter socks. As for the second drain we did not have to change anything. As marine depot said you can put it in another chamber of the sump. Tho I did not have a lot of room to add the filter mat, and did not want to play connect. 😂

Eh cleaning out filter socks takes me about 3 minutes, twice a week. I can find a better use for that 500 bucks.

Don't let stuff like this discourage you. This thing is a niche luxury item, I'd rather use a 6 dollar filter sock.
@ericlind65815 жыл бұрын
Justin How do you clean the filter sock? Or do you just throw away?
@waetos5 жыл бұрын
@@ericlind6581 turn them inside out and throw them into the washing machine with hot water and a capful of plain bleach. Then let them dry out under the sun so any residual bleach can be completely dissipated. I have 18 socks that I bought 3 years ago. They are still as clean and effective as they were when brand new.

Can i clean filter socks in tap water
@OSSOYT6 жыл бұрын
Yes
@bfbaquaculture6 жыл бұрын
Spray with pressure hose inside out with tap water, then keep it submerged in a bucket with bleach for 24 hours or less. Rince again same way as mentioned at the beginning, then hang to dry for 24-48 hours. To be sure do a sniff test to check all bleach has evaporated and your good to go! Trust me I've been doing this for many years. Fish, Inverts, SPS, LPS etc etc

I'm pretty much sitting on the fence with regard to this modification. Pros: - Saves water. - Saves power (no need to use the washing machine) and a little bit of time/neffort. - Probably an excellent ecosystem for breeding and maintaining a good population of all types of copepods/anthropoids etc., in the sump because they aren't going to get dumped into the washing machine like socks during cleaning/changing. - Saves money. Socks are expensive. - It's versatile in that you could simply revert to socks without having to remove the cemented acrylic dam. Just lift the eggcrate and put the socks back in. - Not an expensive modification. - Easily reverted to its original sate. Cons: - Whilst I can't see that pad after a week, I have a strong suspicion that it will become dirty/clogged on the half of the pad that's closest to the water's entry. - It's very likely to be a source ("factory") of nitrate and/or phosphate, unless it's flipped and cleaned every few days. - Finding the ideal micron size and ideal material could be expensive and could take quite some time during a potentially lengthy trial and error process. I have 6 socks in the sump of my 350 gallon sytem. It only takes me a few minutes to swap them out. I use use very little water to clean them. All tolled, what I've seen here isn't enough to justify making such a modification. It might suit other people's set-ups much better than it would suit mine.
