I have a Marineland Portrait 5G; unfortunately my lid broke and there's no replacement parts for it. So I went to Amazon and I found a fish aquarium tank lid that is not the exact measurement, but does the job. Another thing, the tubing stretched on me so I have had to do some major fixing on the back of the tank. I love how your plants took off, I am absolutely speechless! I have mine with no fish and ready to clean since I just removed my betta and moved it to another 5 gallon tank. Then I will add some fish; still undecided which ones. Been looking online to try and find the best fish for this type of tank. Thanks a lot!!!!!!!

Believe it or not I picked up this tank at the local Goodwill outlet store for $5.00. It came with the light, the stand, the pump, basically everything but the gravel and fish. Right now I have a betta and a couple snails in it.

What kind of fish (aside from bettas) can you put in that tank? Because i imagine the shape of it could limit the stocking options

The shape does limit the stocking options. I would recommend white cloud minnows, a pea puffer, ember tetras, endlers, or pearl danios. Those are just the fish I could think of but there are probably a lot more options!

Endlers would be great for this tank! The other plants you see are pogostemon octopus, roseafolia, and rotala. Good luck with your endlers!👍

To get rid of the string algae, dim your lights a bit for a week and dose every other day with API CO2 Boost. Increasing the carbon really helps.

You can fill up the tank with tap water, but make sure you use dechlorinator to get rid of the chlorine in the water that is toxic to fish 👍

Do it. This is the perfect entry level tank to see if you enjoy the hobby. There are several other videos on You Tube with suggested alterations to the setup. Go planted. Any wood needs to be soaked prior to insertion. Rocks are a better choice. Familiarize yourself with the nitrogen cycle. Barry had seasoned bio media which most new hobbyists don't. Good luck.

White cloud mountain minnows are unsuitable for 5 gallon tanks. Yes, it is a misconception for them to live in a 5 - 10 gallon tank. You may go to seriously fish and it says is requires a base dimensions of 60x30. Sure, they could live to their longest lifespan, but they will be unhappy.
