Putting a paywall on a bomb isn't the most Ferengi thing I've heard. Charging two *bars* of latinum, rather than slips or strips, to shut off a bomb is by far the most Ferengi thing I've ever heard. I'm genuinely surprised that it wasn't in bricks instead, because if you're going to exploit someone desperate, you'd better exploit them hard.

Has anyone considered that for all that the Cerritos is supposed to be a workhorse vessel that doesn't do the cool missions and high stakes adventures of the Enterprise and other 'hero' vessels, it's more badass than any of them. Things that would be an entire episode for a hero ship are basically 'for me it was Tuesday' to the Cerritos crew. Rogue energy beings, Genesis devices, spacial anomolies, it's all taken in their stride. And the main lower decks characters. Boimler, the rules lawyer, had repeatedly taken command and pulled off victories. Tendi, the over-enthusiastic science officer is a super assassin, special ops genius. Mariner is equally badass and has apparently seen more action than most security chiefs, and apparently knows everyone worth knowing in the Alpha Quadrant. Rutherford is a genius engineer who is certainly on the level of Scotty, Geordi or O'Brien.
@fredfry5100 Жыл бұрын
Most of us did not consider those points. But the reason they are lower decks, both as lower officers and a Cali-class is consistency. Freeman, while well meaning, is way too invested in being impressive. Ransom is fully capable, but a bit of a suck up. Shax is way to gung ho about getting into fights. And T'ana is T'ana. Our quintet has their own issues. The Enterprise is consistently professional, the Cali-classes, less so.( Looking at that I, Excretus episode where the Captain forgot our then quartet).
@rocketguardian2001 Жыл бұрын
Well most of those instances are second or third encounters. The front line ships had to figure out a way to deal with these things, so the Cerritos crew already has a strategy. It's kind of an "oh yeah, this has all been done before." vibe.

You know one thing I realized about this and the last season finale is there's a moment where you have one of our main heroes, in season 3 it was Carol and here it was Beckett trying to appease to the other side (Buen Amigo season 3 and here Locarno) saying "you aren't like this" and them saying "I really am." And you know what I realized? That's actually perfect symmtrey for the main themes of these character and showing how much they're grown and how important integrity is even over their most selfish desires. Since afterall Carol Freeman like Buen Amigo was someone who wanted to be remembered wanted to push their rank higher then they already were and gain notoroity for their ideas and deeds but the difference was at the end of the day Carol still cared about following the protocol as best as she could and doing what was right for her crew and those under her while Buen Amigo just cared most about results and how others saw his ideas even if they were faulty. Same with this season; Mariner and Locarno were both really talented students at Star Fleet academy who were poised to do great things but experiences made them cyncial to the entire idea of Star Fleet and not wanting to follow their rankings and do their own thing. The difference is Mariner despite her anger and aggression never wanted to rise up in the ranks and just do more her own thing and realized ultimately how limiting that is and how that's cutting off her own progression. While Locarno wanted to set up his own group separate from Star Trek and amass the respect he felt had been denied from him. So yeah the reason Carol and Bekett care so much about trying to redeem and reach out to these guys even when they keep threatening to kill them and do these awful things aren't just because of their own nobility but also recognizing these actions as twisted paths they could have fallen down on some level if they hadn't realized better alternatives and were trying to save these guys down that path even if it was too late for them. And you know that actually makes these parallels hit better honestly realizing that then when I first saw this finale so massive kudos to the team for how they're evolving the cast and paralleling that with the villains they encounter.

In the very end, Locarno got his wish to end his career in a spectacular blaze of glory, literally. Both Locarno and Mariner are often wreckless. I honestly cannot believe Locarno! He got someone killed through a plot to make himself a living legend and years later, all he can think of is how he lost his so called 'perfect' life and pins the blame on his professors when clearly it was all his fault. Not only that, but he boasts about graduating top of his class when he was actually expelled! Also, he treated his "Nova Fleet" with a lot of disrespect and expected them to follow his orders to the letter, so it's no wonder they ditched him! As for Mariner, she has a really good point about the Genesis Device being too dangerous for anyone and I find it really good that she still wanted to save Locarno even after he tried to kill her, as if she hoped that he could still be redeemed. Sadly that wasn't going to happen as Locarno had gotten Josh killed because of his ego......and then his ego got himself killed. Talk about a cautionary tale.

@MarshalStomm Жыл бұрын
It's too small to be a Steamrunner. It's been stated by someone involved with the show that it's a 'Sabrerunner'. So the look of a Steamrunner in a Sabre class sized ship. With its small size, I feel safe speculating that these were combat focused ships meant to supplement the defenses of larger installations like Starbases. Maybe Starfleet was even developing a carrier ship for them. It's interesting that Locarno had one, a full on Starship being stolen would presumably trigger a large response from Starfleet, but smaller support ships like Runabouts (which also had unique registries, unlike Shuttles that had their home ship's registry) aren't as closely watched. Consider how many times DS9 had a runabout stolen.... It also seems to be a fairly recently acquired ship, as it accepts Captain Freeman's command code (I would assume those get changed at least every few years), yet Starfleet didn't think its disappearance was related to the mystery at hand, as they state that no Federation ships had been targeted.

Or Option Three, the Ferengi *bribed* someone in charge of the archives at Strafleet HQ and got the data of the original Genesis Device "under the table", then throw enough money and R&D Teams at the problem until the kinks of the original device had not been ironed out.
