Marinised Cummins Update

First season with the 12v Cummins 6bts coming to an end so heres how it went.
Also I should mention that any worry about automotive droop I had was not warranted, even in a heavy following sea I get a maximum of 100rpm droop which doesn't have any effect.

Am enjoying your channel and glad the 12v's are running smoothly - almost want to book a fishing trip to see them in action now! Any thoughts on intercoolers or the P7100 inline fuel pump? Some good prices on alibaba for those parts. Thanks, Piers

Lol, Feel free. I didn't get a chance to get the EGT gauges fitted this season and to be honest I think high egt's would be the only reason I would bother with the intercoolers, I've gained a few knots and the engines and props seem to have matched up nicely. So I'm not too bothered about increasing power much more as the props and everything will need altering. The VE pumps behave very well so I won't be changing them.

Well done mate with the engines. Looks like you have newage / prm gear box. Is it a 160 or 260?

How hot do the turbos get ? , they are not water cooled... i’m thinking to do the same like you :-) i have volvo tam40 today with intercoolers and the HK is to low for my steel boat

Not sure but nothing much, I have heat jackets on them but no issues, my Ford's had dry turbos on before too. If I went up towards 250hp I think I would need water cooled ones.

Just fitted couple of naturally aspirated to a Bruce Roberts Waverunner. running a 24 volt system. Couldn't seem to get 24 volt start motors so had to revert to original 12 volt. Is that what you have done?

Hi, no my boat was 12volt but the engines are 24volt. The euro2 Daf45 lorries are all 24volt. The daf55 was 24v aswell but had the aluminium bellhousing and a different starter motor just be aware. Run solinoid and alternator also 24v

We run 8.3 litre Cummins in are boom boats at work they are limited to 1950rpm or the drives blow

Hi did you swap the pistons or just use the standard road ones? I'm thinking of doing this to my boat but will need mine to run at 300 - 350hp Any tips on what i should watch out for or buy? Thanks

Hi, I used the standard pistons, I'm not asking much of them power wise, one problem with the truck engines is daf used there own ID plate so there's no CPL. For 350hp you need to find an engine with an inline pump. You'll need a charge cooler, and probably a water-cooled turbo and a bigger cooling circuit with the bigger seawater pump and possibly a fuel cooler. It will be a massive difference in price to build. Eg. The seawater pump for 210hp is circa 550euro, the next level up is around 1600euro. Flywheels and bellhousings varie between trucks so you need to see what works for you. The 53 blocks are out there in 12valves, one of mine is a 53 block but guess if it survived in the truck it will be fine now. 53 blocks were a batch of block castings that had a thin section that cracked, mostly 24valves

@@TheTinski07 thanks so much for your advice. As you probably know. Marine engines cost an arm and three legs! The ones I'm pushing myself to buy are £24 grand with gear boxes and only 700 hours but that's with props and shafts and control panels etc the full setup. . I should just bite the bullet i guess. But it's going to hurt when handing that amount over🙈
