This instrumentation is always how I pictured this song whenever I've played Mario 2. Old school jazz reminiscent of Lil Rascals shorts I watched as a kid. I'd bet the original composer would agree.

I’d say is more related to jazz manouche (gypsy jazz) that guitarist Django was known for. If I were to replace an instrument, it would be the electric guitar to acoustic. It wouldn’t be a bad idea having Pat play the clarinet on this one either, but he is a beast on the sax though….

What's fantastic about this - well, one of the dozens of things about this that's fantastic - the soloists are each smart enough to quote the tune they're playing. Soooo many cats will just leave the theme of the song behind and go off on a tangent, and that can be really great - but hearing everyone's riff on the head is just so satisfying. Well done!

Can't tell you how frustrating a thing it is to be musically inclined and be listening to a cover of a song that you really know well, only for just a note or two to be just. Plain. Wrong. Not a big deal; at least it shouldn't be, you tell yourself. You try listening back. Maybe you misheard or it's a different version. Nope it's somehow more wrong now. Maybe if I hear it in context again, it'll be right? Go back 30 seconds or so, the part comes, and it's still wrong. No matter how hard you try, the song is ruined. Thank god, this has never ONCE happened to me while listening to J-Music. It is truly amazing that they have such good ears for the music they are adapting. Hats off to them.
