@@beeblebrocks8050 a bit of a difference between a class winner and overall. Don't get me wrong I am a big fan of Mario Andretti. He just lacked that one achievement of the triple crown.

But he did win the Daytona 500, so he has a Triple Crown of his own really.

In fact, that was the win that really put him on the big-time racing map in this country. He had won the USAC national championship twice (1965-'66), but he'd never won a big race until he won the 1967 Daytona 500 driving a Holman-Moody car. (In fact, Waddell Wilson, who built the engine, was just elected into the NASCAR Hall of Fame.) Then less than a month after winning that race, he won the 12 Hours of Sebring events, the first of three wins for him in that event, as he would also drive the winning car in the 1970 and '72 runnings of that race. Then came his (and his family's) lone Indy victory in 1969, making him the first driver to ever win both the Indianapolis 500 and Daytona 500, three years BEFORE A.J. Foyt would join him as having won both of those events. (Incidentally, Foyt wouldn't join Andretti as a winner of the 12 Hours of Sebring until 1985, which incidentally would be the final win of any kind he would score in his career.)
